Every day we have 2 or 3 young pitchers that you can’t wait to see how they preform! Can’t remember the last time when we could say that.
I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited about our minor league pitching as I am right now. Our entire farm is looking pretty respectable.
You both nailed it. There really is at least one pitcher every day that is exciting to see. I would really like to see Ferrara take off as a prospect. If he can’t be a back of the rotation starter in the bigs, maybe he could make a decent lefty reliever.
….and they didn’t have to give away any pitcher who was a serious part of their future (PJ Walters was not important enough to worry about having traded him). Good job Mo.
You can see what Texas had to give up to get Adams. Adams (or Bell) would probably necessitated trading Kelly and Swaggerty. I like adding McClellan/Jackson (hopefully healthy), Dotel and Scrabble to the bullpen without giving up pitching. Retaining the depth of good pitching that they are developing will really help going forward.
Order of excitement for me:
S Miller
C Martinez
T Jenkins
Gast
Rosenthal
Cleto
Swagerty
Kelly
Siegrist
Ferrara
Blake
I am drawing a blank. Who is “Blake”? Thanks.
“Blair,” possibly? One shouldn’t totally forget that Keith Butler is mowing ‘em down as a reliever, too. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much pitching in this system before.
Just need to get Tilson and Garcia signed.
Not sure what the hold up is on Gavi
I’m also hoping there’s more to the Rasmus deal. Pomeranz apparently is the PTBNL in the Jimenez deal because he isn’t eligible to be traded until he has been in the org for a full season. Any chance the minor leaguers yet to be named will help us forget that Corey Patterson was involved?
All reports are they aren’t highly-valued PTBNL. Doesn’t mean one couldn’t be a David Freese-type, though.
They’re certainly not going to be top ten in the Toronto system, and probably not top twenty. Thing is, though: that is a VERY deep system. The #30 prospect in the Toronto system still has a pretty good chance of being useful.
This has been my point all along…the development staff can dig up some useful talent out of the depths of most organizations. Freeze…Cleto. I bet they have a list of available players so they have even more time to scout and dig up decent prospects from a solid system.
Would all depend on who goes and who stays, something tells me they will need more cash than players.
I was told last night at the Springfield game by a Springfield Cardinal employee that St. Louis would probably take the money. As you know the Springfield team is owned by the big club.
This would not surprise me at all. I told some friends when the trade was made that they would probably take the money.
Deryk Hooker starts rehab at GCL today.
Those of you that follow rotations…..any idea who will be pitching for Springfield this weekend? Specifically, Friday/Saturday/Sunday?
Thanks.
Kelly, Gast and then I think Additon
Shelby on Thursday?
Crap. I have tickets in the suite on Friday, and possibly access to seats two rows behind homeplate the rest of the weekend.
Oh, and thanks for the info.
On behalf of the Tulsa Drillers, I kindly ask the Springfield Cardinals to tweek their rotation to let Shelby Miller pitch in Tulsa.
And I beg them to keep the rotation the same, as I believe I’m going to get to see Shelby in Little Rock this Thursday.
Boo!!!!! lol
I second that…
Luna down to springfield.
Go to say, This looks like a classic case of to many guys. Been a much better player than Brown. Goes to show you that the 40 man spot plays a role.
