Chuckie Fick with 5 BB’s in one inning of work…impressive

    • Indiana Cardinal says:

Yes he had a bad outing. However why ignore the fact that over his previous 8 outings over 10 and 2/3rds innings he gave up no earned runs, 3 hits and 2 walks? Just asking?

      • Forsch31 says:

Because this thread is about yesterday’s games? And 5 BBs in one inning is weirdly notable no matter what his overall performance has been?

    • cariocacardinal says:

Probably didn’t help that he had only pitched once in the previous 6 days.

  2. Cardini99 says:

Seems like Longmire has been hitting better of late, seems like the last month or so he has something to the effect of 2-4 for an extra base hit of some kind, maybe he is making some adjustments with his swing, has anyone seen him play lately?

    • Austin says:

He has been hitting better of late…

      April (76 AB’s): .184/.235/.224
      May (92 AB’s): .204/.262/.380
      June (47 AB’s): .319/.365/.426
      July (52 AB’s): .327/.386/.442

      • Forsch31 says:

Longmire reportedly has a long swing; I wonder if that’s been improved upon and we’re seeing the results.

Shoul have kept additon at AAA, and let boyer suck somewhere else

    • Indiana Cardinal says:

I am not sure what has been the Cards’ infatuation with Boyer? He hasn’t been very good anywhere he has been?

      • Zach says:

Honestly, we shouldn’t have to see him on a DFR ever again – what’s the hope here, that he puts it together? Never going to happen

      • pitch and hit says:

It may be just to fill a need right now, especially with PJ gone. As far as Additon, they needed another lefty starter in springfield to make a run for it.

I agree with CC on Fick, you can’t stay sharp when you pitch an inning or two 5-6 days out. I am not sure what’s with that.

  4. VolsnCards5 says:

Oscar Taveras is so freaking awesome

    • Cards Fan in Chitown #2 says:

Yes he is, I’d put him at #3 on our prospect rankings right now…..

      Miller
      CMart
      Taveras
      Jenkins
      Adams
      Cox
Swaggerty (call me nuts if you want)
      Wong
      Rosy
      Capellan

      • Brian B says:

        I like you’re ranking

      • siddfynch says:

I prefer Wong to Cox. And not just for the wordplay.

      • cariocacardinal says:

        No Carpenter?

You do realize that Sanchez will be eligible for prospect list consideration (using BA criteria).

        • Gruntosaurus says:

Alas, this is Sanchez’ official rookie season, and he won’t be a rookie going into next year, at least using BBWAA Rookie of the Year rules. Those require that a player have had “Fewer than 45 days on the active roster, excluding time on the disabled list, in military service, or time when the rosters are expanded (currently after September 1)” — which is not the case, as he was on the active roster for 60 days in April, May and June. He’s graduated from prospect to rookie. Still an interesting pitcher, though.

    • sadsushi says:

yep he is..best overall hitting prospect in the minors for the cardinals..

    • Hugecardsfan says:

Actually some folks think it’s all BABIP…

      • Rui says:

Without a doubt, he has a high average (and by proxy, OBP and SLG) because of his BABIP. We don’t know, however, how much of that BABIP is luck and how much of it is skill.

  5. tom s. says:

bryan anderson is back at his normal offensive level after a slow start; i can’t believe he hasn’t latched on as a backup somewhere.

virgil hill has been hitting well since his demotion (.356 wOBA @ Batavia compared to a .257 @ QC). unfortunately, he’s turning 22 next month and running out of time.

    • Andrew says:

I disagree he was drafted in 09 and was very raw at the time. We won’t get rid of a raw OF with those type of physical skills very quickly.

    • jjray says:

      >>bryan anderson is back at his normal offensive level after a slow start; i can’t believe he hasn’t latched on as a backup somewhere.<<

How can he "latch on" anywhere other than with the Cardinals organization? Teams should trade B level prospects who are blocked. You rarely see that happen (or at least I haven't). Some team has got to have a potential loogy sitting unused on their AAA roster and are in need of a backup catcher. Once the Cards moved Cruz ahead of Anderson on the depth chart (and considering the existence of Yadi ahead of both), Anderson's future in the Cardinals organization has effectively been sealed. They should get something for him.

  6. Danimal says:

Speaking of Virgil Hill, whatever happened to Reggie Williams his equivalent super raw, super athletic comparison?

    • cariocacardinal says:

Started the year at Batavia (good) but sent to the GCL after only 3 AB’s (bad). He broke a hamate bone in his hand during the Spring. Tough injury to recover from. I thought Williams was young but he will be 22 at the end of the season.
