Shelby Miller will make a start tonight against the 32nd overall pick out of the 2008 draft, Jake Odorizzi.  Odorizzi’s transition from A ball to the Texas League has been a bit of a mixed bag as his strikeout rate has dropped against better hitters in a hitter friendly league.

Finally get to go see Shelby pitch tonight in person. The only other time was on his sweet 2/3 of an inning start a few weeks ago.

Shelby Miller should be in line to pitch next Friday in Tulsa.

Carlos Martinez has been moved to the seven-day disabled list. Martinez, the Cardinals second-ranked pitching prospect in the system, goes on the DL with a hip strain that is not related to his right arm.

Martinez was already slated to miss at least a start as the Cardinals pulled him from the rotation to save him a few innings and work on his delivery. Martinez was going to meet with several of the Cardinals’ pitching coaches and instructors to develop more deception in his delivery. His recent struggles in the Florida State League have not been the result of fatigue or workload, the Cardinals said, but because he’s telegraphing his fastball. Though he can throw it in the upper-90s, opponents are better able to hit it when they have a clear view of it, even at that level.
