The St. Louis Cardinals have upgraded their farm system in a major way the past two seasons.  Just last year Baseball America ranked their club 29th out of all 30 major league teams.  They received a relatively small bump up to being ranked 24th earlier this season after the Cardinals drafted Zack Cox, Tyrell Jenkins, and saw the beginning of the rise of a now highly touted prospect by the name of Carlos Martinez.  In 2012, it’s entirely possible that the Cardinals will receive a consensus Top 10 ranking.

Below is an updated depth chart for the top position player in the Cardinals system for each respective position.  Due to length, I’ve broken it down into two parts, the second of which will be posted tomorrow.  For each player, a breakdown of their skills is included in addition to other information and statistics that I found interesting in their stance with the big club and their current league.

Maikel Cleto takes the bump for Memphis tonight. His walk rate in AAA has gotten a bit unruly including 6 walks in 6 innings during his last start. He’ll look to tamp that down tonight versus the Tucson Padres.

The farm system read the headline from yesterday’s DFR and decided to do something about it. The teams put up a record of 5-1 on the night and displayed some impressive power.

Not a lot of wins to discuss on the night. Springfield and Palm Beach were the only victors as the farm put up a record of 2-4.

The Cardinals will look poised to send two teams to the playoffs again this year and possibly more. The low minors have fared better than the high minors but let’s take a look at who’s out and who still has a chance.

Pinch hitting for the night.

Tonight on Future Redbirds: Another start cut short in Springfield.  A catcher distances himself from the mound in Palm Beach. Meanwhile, in the low minors, the starting pitchers flash dominance to lead their teams to victory.  All that and cake in your Daily Farm Report.

The Cardinals young, prized Dominican hurler, Carlos Martinez has been showing signs of wearing down as this season has worn on and I think it is time for the Cardinals to think about limiting his innings by pulling a Swagerty and putting him in the bullpen for the rest of the year.
