BTW, I know there has been some questions about Kolten Wong’s speed and stolen bases (Aaron/Red Baron made a comment about it at VEB yesterday) and I just wanted to point this out in case nobody else has yet:

Wong’s first six SB attempts: 1 SB, 5 CS

Wong’s last/next six SB attempts: 6 SB, 0 CS

I think there is a reasonable argument that his initial struggles were more about adjusting to pro ball than a problem with his speed.

I’ve seen J-Rod once and I have talked to others who have also seen him. He has a long way to go with the glove and his work around the bag. If he doesn’t improve, he may be destined for the AL if he continues to hit.

quad cites trailed that game 5-0 after the first inning..seth blair really put them in a hole ….really really wish i could of seen them
play this year..most exciting minor league team for the cards system

Gotta like the power/patience from J-Rod II. On the season, 47 of his 96 hits have gone for extra bases, obviously a terrific ratio.

Now if he can just cut down on his strikeouts by 15-20% and get that batting average up to around .280, he looks like a plausible 3-4 WAR 1B at the MLB level down the line.

Wong? What can you say? He’s hitting .340+, with solid power (ISO .160+), and now he’s stolen 7 bases in his last 8 tries. He’s looking like a top 30-40 prospect to me…if not higher.

Jenkins was lights out until his last inning, I think they let him go a bit too far. He has had a great year though. Man, I can’t seem to remember a time that our farm system has been this exciting. We’ve got several top of the rotation guys who are doing well, high leverage RP’s who aren’t disappointing, and potential ML starters at nearly every position who seem to be right on track. Gives me something to be excited about after this poor year by the Cardinals..

You don’t have to be tall to hit……..K.C. has a rookie 2nd baseman that is 5’8″ and he is doing very well. Wong may be better defensively, but offensively, they look to be comparable. Oh yeah, and Pedroia has spent some time this year batting clean-up! (that’s actually true – of course it was due to injury, but still!)

No I think he’s available for any team in the system. I believe he’s slated for JC next as they need a win. There’s also a rumor of a guerilla appearance in an AFL game. Date unspecified.
