Archive for September, 2011This is a long time in coming and Jeff is the one who deserves the credit. I’ve been lax in keeping the facebook page up but Jeff was kind enough to create the new “page” version for Future Redbirds. You can find the page here with the RSS feed already tied up. My favorite part of the group and one that I’d encourage everyone to use is the photo feature. I know some of you are incredible photogs (James, I still have your pictures in my inbox — I promise) and now you’ve got a place to store and share them with other people who follow the Cardinals minor league system. So go ahead and like it. You know you want to. Quad Cities picked up the series sweep tonight against Clinton. Their season will now continue as they move on to round two of the playoffs. Let’s take a look at what went down in the clinching game. On to the DFR! With only 1 game on the docket tonight, the Quad Cities playoff game, I figured I’d give you more of a recap/player line hybrid. We will see how it goes, I know how some like their DFR to be straightforward so this may be a one night experiment. On to the DFR!

Minor League Pitching LeadersPosted by Jeff in Memphis Redbirds, Palm Beach Cardinals, Quad Cities River Bandits, Springfield CardinalsWith the minor league season coming to an end for most teams. Let’s take a look at the pitching leaders for each team by tRA. (with at least 12 innings pitched) Numbers courtesy of statcorner. The River Bandits will take on the Clinton LumberKings who finished 2.5 games back of them in the standings. The LumberKings, a Mariners affiliate, will be the home team for game one and games two and three, if necessary, will be played at Modern Woodman Park in the Quad Cities. The River Bandits went 10-5 against the LumberKings including a late season sweep during August 31st – September 2nd. Expect to see Taijuan Walker, one of the top teenage arms in the minors, get a start during the series against the River Bandits. Johnson City took the Appalachian League Championship on Sunday for the second consecutive year. Afterwards, they went to Applebee’s. A fond farewell to both Memphis and Springfield as their seasons came to an end. Quad Cities will move on to face the Clinton LumberKings in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs. Check out how the players ended their season below! I hope everyone is fortunate enough to have the day off — if not, my apologies. If you’re in the St. Louis area, go outside and enjoy the incredible weather we have right now. Posting will resume as normal tomorrow including a congrats to the Appalachian League Champions the Johnson City Cardinals. The Johnson City Cardinals are your Appalachian League Champions for the second year in a row. The farm went 4-2 overall. |
