As we move towards wrapping up the minor league season, Matt Adams and Starlin Rodriguez push to end excellent seasons on a high note. The farm went 3-3 on a night when Palm Beach played a double header, Quad Cities was cancelled and Johnson City won game one of the three game Appalachian League championship series.

The appeals have already been made here and elsewhere to see Tyler Greene get the lion’s share of playing time this September. Shortstop is an obvious problem and one that needs addressing for the future. Ryan Theriot has proven that whatever defense might have been expected from him entering the season, simply was more than what he actually brought to the table.

To use a quick tautology: Apparent problems are obvious.  Do the Cardinals have a less apparent problem that they should be dealing with.

Brandon Dickson’s outing yesterday was an example of what minor league call-ups can be about, especially for guys who rely heavily on off-speed stuff. The first time through the order, the success is greater because of the newness factor. Yet, with each look the opponent gets at you, the more likely they are to either square up the bad ones or lay off the good ones. Still, Dickson did exactly what I expected from him and I’m sorry he didn’t last long enough to notch a W.
