Our boys aren’t faring well in Arizona.
Harper is 0 for 13, don’t think the Nats are giving up on him, still early. At least Taveras is making contact and Jackson is hitting well.
I take it back. Seems Jackson is hitting .500 in 14 at bats.
In other news, “Seedlings to Stars,” a prospect-following blog that I’d never heard of until today but that seems worth reading, ranks Trevor Rosenthal #92 on their Top 100 list, now at #89 and counting up. The impression is that he’d be considerably higher if they had more of an answer to the “where did THAT come from?” question. Stuff that appeared here in Future Redbirds earlier, that dealt with the “character” part of why he dropped in the draft (and explained why it was a bum rap), might answer their question.
What was the character stuff?
A teenage peccadillo involving chewing tobacco. I’m just sure that I saw it in a comment here, but I’m unable to find it with the search function. Anybody else? Or was it in VEB, or Leach’s column, or something at the Mother Ship? Anyway, the whole thing came off sounding like Rosie had done something dumb as a kid, and a school system overreacted (was forced to overreact). Obviously a “character” thing, since nobody else has ever done anything dumb as a teenager, right??…
Found it! http://www.futureredbirds.net/2011/04/14/daily-farm-report-04132011/
I don’t know why the search function doesn’t find this. Look about two thirds of the way down the comments. (That is Rosie he’s talking about, right?)
Good on Rosenthal. Scouts are beginning to see the hidden gems in our farm system. As mentioned, another year like this and he should zoom up the prospect list. This was a big leap for Rosey. He went from 56 combined innings the past 2 years to 120 + this year.
He should have more staying power the 2d half next year. If he stays healthy…
