Tis the season.

Glad to see Matt Carpenter get his due as the best strike zone judgment after last year’s snub.  I’d probably put Boone Whiting’s changeup against anyone’s but I’ve had more exposure to his than John Gasts.

Peoria 12, Surprise 13

  • Ryan Jackson got the start at 1B and went 1-for-4 with a HR and a walk.  At .349/.438/.508, I’m not sure that Jackson has done anything to improve his prospect status so much as reaffirm it. That line come with a BABIP around .450, which is partly a park factor issue as well. Basically, Jackson has done exactly what you would have wanted him to on offense: put the ball in play, draw some walks, hit for a little power.
  • Keith Butler pitched an inning allowing 1 run on 2 hits and a walk.
  • Justin Wright pitched a frame as well striking out 1.
