Reds Sign Daryl Jones In Minor League Free Agency
Posted on November 9th, 2011 by Jeff in Daryl JonesThe Cardinals have seven minor league free agents and the highest profile of them all, DJ Tools, Daryl Jones has already been claimed by the Cincinnati Reds. Check out the minor league free agent tracker here at Baseball America.
Jones’s OPS by year: .597 (2005), .745 (2006), .600 (2007), .889 (2008), .738 (2009), .696 (2010), .760 (2011).
One of these things is not like the others…
The full list of Cardinals minor league free agents are:
Freddie Bynum, Eric Duncan, Daryl Jones, Jeff Lyman, Rich Rundles, Donovan Solano, Nick Stavinoha

Wishing Daryl good luck
Seven names on this list is actually a remarkably small number. Well over 600 players became minor-league free agents this month.
Some others we might remember as ex-Cardinal farm hands (or major leaguers) who are (were) in other farm systems now: Tagg Bozied, Jason Buursma, Terry Evans, Jarrett Hoffpauir, Randy Keisler, Josh Kinney, Hector Luna, Joe Mather, Luis Perdomo, Royce Ring, Jeff Suppan, Joe Thurston, Brett Tomko, Adam Veres, PJ Walters, Mark Worrell. There are probably others that I missed. I’d be happy to have Worrell and maybe Buursma and Hoffpauir back in the system; the others … not so much.
Good idea for Walt to sign Darryl. Jones might improve as a hitter and come in handy for the Reds, in the event of injuries.
I think DJ has a better shot in Cincy than with the Cards org. He’s blocked by Chambers here for bench left handed outfield bat. The fact that he’s not a very good CF’er, does have the arm to play RF, and lacks the power to be a starting LF’er hurts as well. I wish DJ well.
… does NOT have the arm to play RF
Nick Stavinoha signed with the Astros.
I got a big smile on my face when I saw this.
Hard to worsen the Stro’s roster. . . but they did!
Nick is a true Cardinal: helping the team toward a 2012 repeat, in so many ways.
Nick can let the Astros send Brett Wallace back to the minors
I’d still rather have Daryl Jones around than Adron Chambers, but I won’t lose sleep over this.
