We’ll return to our daily updates now that I’m back in St. Louis.

Peoria 13, Mesa 3

  • Oscar Taveras was 2-for-4.
  • Tyler Lyons went 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 ER. He struck out 5.  I’ve been pleasantly surprised with his AFL preformance. He has a 4:1 K:BB ratio with a strikeout an inning. It will be interesting to see if he gets a shot at being a starter in Springfield to begin the 2012 season.
  • Justin Wright walked 2 in a scoreless inning.

The Cardinals have seven minor league free agents and the highest profile of them all, DJ Tools, Daryl Jones has already been claimed by the Cincinnati Reds. Check out the minor league free agent tracker here at Baseball America.

Jones’s OPS by year: .597 (2005), .745 (2006), .600 (2007), .889 (2008), .738 (2009), .696 (2010), .760 (2011).

One of these things is not like the others…

The full list of Cardinals minor league free agents are:
Freddie Bynum, Eric Duncan, Daryl Jones, Jeff Lyman, Rich Rundles, Donovan Solano, Nick Stavinoha

I know Future Redbirds has a lot of readers in a lot of different places. One of the things I’m working on right now is an article on Tyrell Jenkins for the Maple Street Press Annual that Larry Borowsky (lboros) edits.  What I’m wondering is if anyone has a good picture of Jenkins (action shots are fine) that I could use for this article.

You can contact me at timamccullough@gmail.com.

I’ll also have some interview stuff that didn’t make the cut, which I’ll post here after the article is done.

Peoria 4, Salt River 13

  • Matt Adams was 1-for-4.
  • Oscar Taveras was 1-for-4. Tweets from MLBazFallLeague indicated it was a hell of a homerun.

Peoria 4, Salt River 2

  • Oscar Taveras was 0-for-3.
  • Ryan Jackson went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. I have to admit that I’m hugely relieved to see him hitting in Arizona. I still have concerns about advanced pitchers picking him apart with his hitting mechanics but I love his glove. Ryan Jackson probably needs to be at Memphis next year and that probably depends, at least in part, on what the Cardinals do with Tyler Greene.
  • Tyler Lyons has his best outing of the AFL to date with 5 perfect innings and 5 strikeouts.
