Good catch, Tom. Seems TJ’s attitude is much more conducive to progressing through the system. How much is innate and how much is attributable to Carp calling his aside and saying, “Hey, buddy . . . . ” is anyone’s call. Good to see for whatever reason.

I think it is the latter. Matheny seems to be doing things differently with mixing the younger guys in – and he specifically said he met with the veterans first to get their approval. I get the impression that TLR was more old school where the younger guys are treated differently – maybe even hazed to an extent.

it’s interesting to hear a young player say, “The guys were really helpful. Most of the guys don’t see age. It’s about being Cardinals. I never realized I was the youngest player on the team until you mentioned it.”

that’s a pronounced difference from rasmus’s response to the club. i’m sure some of it is the difference between jenkins’s demeanor and colby’s, but i also wonder if a la russa/pujols-free team changes in tenor.

also, jenkins was born in 1992. commence feeling old, y’all.

Can’t wait to see him live in the Midwest League. His frame, stuff, athleticism, general feel for pitching suggest that he is a better chance to be a 200 innings year after year pitcher than C-Mart. On the other hand C-Mart has such easy power that it barely looks like he is throwing.

Thrilled to have them both.

He has already passed C-Mart on the FanGraphs top 15, which (finally) went up today. (Of course, there are some things about that list that don’t impress me favorably, but this isn’t necessarily one of them.)

This sounds like a VERY impressive young man. I wish him well.

Seems like TJ’s star is on the ascendant train. Wonder if he passes Martinez this year on the prospect list? Nice write up.
