What’s up everyone. Happy Friday. I’ve got the Vuch Report from AZ who is snarled in an airport somewhere. The “Quad Cities” team split in two and there were five games today.
Memphis 1, New Orleans 3
Jess Todd struck out 6 over 3.2 innings, walking 3 and giving up no runs. Will be interesting to see what happens to Todd this year as he’s just turning 26 in April.
Nick Greenwood gave up 2 runs in 2 innings.
RJ Swindle swindled New Orleans for one perfect inning.
Adam Reifer pitched two innings, striking out 1 and walking 1. I can’t wait to see what we get from Reifer this year coming off his knee injury. He’s still got 8th/9th inning potential.
Steven Hill was the only real highlight for the hitters with a 2 for 2 with a double.
Ryan Jackson and Jose Garcia singled.
Springfield 2, Jacksonville 2
Joe Kelly struck out 6 in 4 innings. He did allow 5 hits and 2 earned runs.
Kevin Thomas also pitched 4 innings. He had 4 strikeouts and no runs allowed.
Scott Schneider struck out the side in his one inning. Schneider had 20 starts and 15 relief appearances last year in Springfield, looks possible that the Cardinals are using him in relief this year.
Kolten Wong continues to just hit and went 2 for 2 with a two bagger.
Nick Longmire singled and walked. Longmire is hoping for a bounce-back year after a splashy debut season.
Jonathan Rodriguez singled and walked 2 times.
Palm Beach 7, Jupiter 8
Shelby Miller gave up 2 runs in 4 innings. He struck out 3.
Justin Edwards and Aiden Lucas pitched 2 and 1 innings respectively.
Ricky Martinez gave up half the runs himself over two innings.
Luis Mateo had 3 hits.
Roberto Reyes had 2 hits.
Packy Elkins had two walks.
Romulo Ruiz, who has possibly been around forever, had a double, RBI and run scored.
Quad Cities (Red Team) 7, Greensboro 5
Adam Ottavino gave up 2 runs in 1.2 innings against the kids.
Danny Miranda struck out 1 in 2.1 innings.
Kevin Jacob struck out 3 in 1.2 innings.
Vance Albitz who was playing in the Independent leagues as recently as last year was 3 for 4 with a walk and a run.
David Bergin (30th round in 2011) was also 3 for 4 but he had 2 HRs and a walk.
Nick Martini was shaken, not stirred as he went 2 for 5.
Colin Walsh was 2 for 3 with a double.
Quad Cities (White Team) 0, Jamestown 5
Sam Freeman struck out 1 in 2 innings.
Chase Reid struck out 4 in 2 innings.
Brandon Creath (44th round in 2011) struck out 4 in 2 innings, but allowed 3 runs.
Ethan Cole struck out 3 in 2 innings.
Not much to report obviously from this side of the QC squad, but Adam Ehrlich, Neal Pritchard, Sam Tuivailala and Kenny Peoples-Walls all had a hit each.

A rather blah looking day in general, although it’s good to see Kelly pitching and Wong hitting well.
Looks like Todd is bweing tried as a starter again.
Jacob seems to be racking up the K’s this Spring – maybe he has his pre injury velocity back.
I called Jacobs one of the biggest sleepers in our 2011 draft as the 31st Rd pick. Its the classic high risk/high reward scenario but that is exactly what you want in the later rounds IMO. If Jacobs comes back to form look out…he has the potential to move quickly if showing healthy and dominant.
It could be, with moving Cleto to the pen, and Todd a softer tosser, may make sense.
Why are the 40 man guys pitching to the youngsters?
I would guess it has to do with timing and routine as they prepare for the season, but I can’t say for sure.
I got the answer, because of the rain they are backed up and need work.
We have a logjam of starting pitchers. Several at the PB level seem to be pressing up. Someone(s) will have to be moved. I have no idea who. I really thought Todd might be a candidate for exit, but he seems to have other thoughts. I don’t really have a solid opinion one way or the other, but the numbers game is soon upon us. They may hold off for a few weeks to get one more look.
He doesn’t 91-92
Huh?
Someone asked if he had his previous velocity back. I said he doesn’t he is throwing 91-92
