Asked yesterday…is Matt Williams a SS long term?

    • RCHIII says:

I don’t know, but I have never heard him mentioned as such – doesn’t mean anything, but thought I would at least respond since no one else has!

    • Matt says:

I think I saw someone respond to that yesterday with a “yes”. Though his name keeps popping up, lets temper our enthusiasm – he looks a bit old for the league (turns 23 this year) and looks like a singles hitter that’s gotten lucky so far to start this year.

I’m trying to figure out which non-pitchers to follow in QC (jenkins, hernandez, look like the main ones to watch)
Medina looks a bit more interesting with his approach and power, but is a 1B and is already 23… I’m thinking it’s mainly watch Roberto DLC, and Anthony Garcia with Ramatula and Martini being the ones to look at with a bit more skeptical eye. The rest seem mainly like organization players at this point – though that’s just my admittedly uninformed opinion based on current age and past performance.

Williams had an ISO of .171 last year, so I probably wouldn’t label him a “singles hitter” even if in some tiny sample this year he’s hit a lot of singles.

      • VolsnCards5 says:

        oops…just seeing that someone responded…

      • Andrew says:

I think Matt Williams could probably be in Palm Beach right now if it wasn’t for Ronny Gil. IMO Ramutulla and Martini have a better chance to be averagish MLB players while DLC and Garcia may one day be starters but are more likely to completely not make it than the other two. Medina is playing RF and has a really odd swing.

Meanwhile, Casey’s big brother is OPSing a cool .490 since joining Toronto.

What do we know about the little brother in this family? He obviously has some athletic skills, but is his head well screwed on? I ask not so much because he’s a prospect (he’s probably not) but to try to figure out what’s going on with that family. The word “enigmatic” was coined for writers to use in situations like that.

Kyle Hald was hit in the head by a line drive
and was removed from the game as a precaution.
Haven’t heard a follow up report as yet.

P Gorgen’s recovery from TJ surgery and excellent pitching so far this spring almost overcomes my disappointment about losing Swaggerty for the season, although it gives hope that Swaggerty will comeback well next season.

  5. illinoiscardinalfan says:

I’m sure Dickson is on the top of the list, if the Cardinals need a spot starter this year since he is on the 40 man roster, but Gorgen has to be moving up that list pretty fast with the great start he has had.

  6. shaneo69 says:

Bryan Anderson still hitless on the year; that sucks…

  7. solar pons says:

You can never have too much pitching. old saying. lol Gorgen is really looking good..

  8. Cardinals645 says:

Pleased to see Gorgen continuing to pitch well in his return. I’ve been waiting for him to come back since that hot start he had in 2010. It’s nice to see him pick up where he left off; I just hope he doesn’t get promoted before I watch them play San Antonio in May!
