Good young power arms pitching today. Both Jenkins and Martinez are having good seasons so far. Jenkins averaging 6.88 K/9 so far depending more on contact outs than the strikeouts that’s good to see especially out of a young pitcher and a BABIP of 1.96. Martinez has improved his command a little over last season he averaged almost 6 BB/9 this season 3.27 BB/9 have to give some credit to Dennis Martinez for helping him fix that.

Anybody hear Rick Horton proclaim during yesterday’s telecast that BABIP is a measure of how hard a hitter hits the ball? Rick is turning into a pleasant version of Strauss.

  3. The DL says:

I did hear that. Rick & Al need to stick to telling dumb stories as opposed to getting into anything more than “baseball card stats”.

  4. Karmaloop says:

Apparently it’s Hector Hernandez starting for Quad Cities today.

  5. DT Flush says:

Taveras hit his 8th HR in the 1st Inning in Springfield. Now is 2nd in the Texas League. This kid has developed some power this season good to see. Kolten Wong 2-3 with two singles.

In Oscar’s Third AB he showed some discipline at the plate working a 9 Pitch AB and drew the walk. Now he has 2 walks on the afternoon.

      • John I says:

7:2 BB:K ratio the last 8 games. Wow.

      • UofIx3 says:

Taveras drew his first BB (actually 2 in that game) in his 21st game and has 5 more BBs in the 7 games following (including Sunday’s game).

Guess he decided he could hit home runs without a problem and decided it was time to start on the plate discipline :)

        • RCHIII says:

Accounts I have read is opposing pitchers don’t like to pitch to him anymore. I always thought that would be the natural progression – he would start taking walks when the pitchers decided to try and make him chase bad pitches – in other words, “plate discipline” is being forced on him. That OT isn’t swinging at them is great news.

  6. Karmaloop says:

And now Carlos Martinez isn’t pitching tonight either. Kevin Seigerist is pitching instead. Does someone know if something is up with Martinez?

  7. Andrew says:

No they were just waiting for Siegrist to be on normal rest to get him back in the rotation. MILB.com wasn’t aware that Siegrist would be pitching today.

  8. solar pons says:

Pitching wise it seems that almost everyday we have a good looking starter going at some level..

  9. Hugecardsfan says:

Wong comes up lame running to first. In the top of the 8th Taveras runs into someone (Garcia?) and is taken out of the game with an apparent knee injury.

    Dear God.

    • Andrew says:

Wong turned his ankle a bit and was taken out. Normally, that wouldn’t concern me but the Cardinals have had bad luck with ankles (Freese). The Taveras collision was apparently pretty nasty but the announcer think he was jsut taken out for precautionary reasons as he was walking normally and under his own power to leave the field.

      • Hugecardsfan says:

Sure hope you’re right. Freese’s ankle was after a serious auto injury.

I’m going to Little Rock 16th, 17th just to watch Springfield play. Would hate to not see either of those two.

    • johnorpheus says:

Hopefully just day-to-day stuff at worst.

  10. Bob says:

Give Wong and Taveras the rest of the year off. I’m sold that both are future MLB All-Stars.

If the 2011 draft were re-held, the Hilo Hammer would be among my top 3 or 4 selections (Lindor, Bundy, Bauer).

And Taveras? Pro-rate his 114 AB’s to 570, and you’ve got a teenager in AA with a .325 average, plus 50 doubles, 10 triples, and 40 homers. (I heart easy math.)

    Heal up quick, boys. :)

  11. Andrew says:

Bob how about Colin Walsh. I remember a write up you did on him in the Top 40 2 years ago.

  12. cj says:

It showed Oscar Tavaras jogging after the colision so i think he is going to be okay, maybe sit a game or 2 out as a precaution. I don’t know about Wong though haven’t heard anything
