MiLB lied to me yesterday and I missed both the probable starters in the low minors. Those pitchers, Carlos Martinez & Tyrell Jenkins, instead start today for Palm Beach & Quad Cities respectively.

Memphis @ Round Rock, 12:05pm – Brandon Dickson

Springfield vs. Arkansas, 7:08pm – Scott Gorgen

Palm Beach vs. Brevard County, 10:35am – Carlos Martinez

Quad Cities @ Peoria, 11:00am – Tyrell Jenkins

I’ve been so busy with baseball and graduation that it’s been hard for me to not only keep up with the MLB Cardinals, but also their minor league teams.

With that said, I am aware that Matt Adams, Kolten Wong, and Oscar Taveras are doing about what we expected, maybe a bit better. I also know that Shelby Miller and Eduardo Sanchez started off slow in AAA but are getting progressively better.

Here’s what I would like to know: who have been the surprises so far this season? Who is having their coming-out party and is starting to look like a legitimate prospect? I like what Ryan Jackson has done at AAA. Also, Joe Kelley (AAA) and John Gast (AA) have had strong starts (as far as I know). Thanks in advance. I will probably post this over at the Post Dispatch website as well to get their opinions.

Through 5 innings. Martinez seems to be doing pretty good in this early start.

I really pray that Martinez is the real deal as a starter..

    • DT Flush says:

Has the stuff to be a frontline starter. Also could be a quality back off the Bullpen kind of guy. El Presidente will help him at A Palm Beach. He’s showing a little polishing this season. Hope he can keep it up.

  4. Lou Schuler says:

MIxed results for Jenkins: Just 4 hits and 2 ER with 10 k in 6 IP, but also 4 BB, 2 WP.

Bullpen blew up in the 7th, after he left the game, but the box score says all 4 runs were unearned.

  5. Karmaloop says:

Anyone heard what Charlie Tilson is up to?

  6. DT Flush says:

Martinez with an outstanding outing 7.0 IP 3 H 1 R 1 ER 1 BB 7 K. Certainly was on top of his game earning his 2nd Win.

    • Karmaloop says:

3 HBP and a WP definitely make the line worse. I’d be curious as to what pitches led those four wild pitches.

      • Hugecardsfan says:

With only 2 BB’s? I don’t see it that way. Shows me he’s willing to throw inside and not suffer detrimental effects from a few hit batsmen. Only 1 WP in 7 innings not so bad. I’d take that line any time.

  7. DT Flush says:

Jenkins was wild walking 4 but went 6 Innings striking out 10. Williams showed some power hitting his 1st HR of the year.

  8. Hugecardsfan says:

Dickson… What happened to the guy that had a ton of K’s last game?
