Should be a lot of groundball outs tonight.
…and Corpus Christi shouldn’t plan on getting many BB’s.
Shelby doesn’t look like a #1 prospect this year. Anybody suppose that his weight issue has played into a blah year?
I’m a little concerned about his down velocity and so so year.
I think part of the reason he looked like so good the last few years is he was focusing on performance over development and the organization let it happe. I’d like to think the struggles this year have to do with him working to become a complete MLB ready pitcher. He’s been coughing up a great deal of HR’s lately. It looked like he had gotten over that but it’s come back with a vegence the last 2 starts.
Maness pitched another strong game. 7 innings scattering 9 hits. Gave up an unearned run in the 5th on an error by Wong. He gave up a hit and an opposite field home run to Jon Singleton in the 6th. With Springfield up 5-3, Hooker game in. Gave up a home run. Then a hit. On a single up the middle Taveras bobbled the ball in CF which allowed the runner to score. Next inning Blazek gave up a walk off HR. Springfield loss.
I am not terribly worried about Shelby. His k and bb rates are almost identical to his rates in Springfield last year. He has an abnormally high BABIP and home run rates. Pretty sure he’ll improve as he gets more comfortable and as his stats regress to his norm.
