The weakened Memphis lineup could not stand up against major league vets in Chris Volstad and Carlos Marmol and Robert Stock started his first professional game in the second game of a double header as the system goes 2-3.
- Anonymous outfielder Lou Montanez was 2-3 with a walk.
- Mark Hamilton and Ryan Jackson were 2-4 each.
- Nick Additon was inefficient, going only four innings while giving up seven hits, three earned runs and four walks and striking out four.
- Jess Todd struck out four and walked a batter in three scoreless innings.
- Adam Reifer couldn’t find his control and gave up the other two runs while walking 3 in 1.1 innings.
Springfield 10, Corpus Christi 1
- Jermaine Curtis was 4-4 with a double and a walk
- Kolten Wong and Oscar Taveras each had a hit in five at bats. Wong’s was a triple.
- Kyle Conley and Xavier Scruggs each hit a bomb.
- Low strikeout but still effective day for Trevor Rosenthal who went five innings with a pair of Ks and BBs, four hits and an earned run.
- The bullpen of Justin Wright, Kevin Thomas, Jesse Simpson and Chris Corrigan combined for four innings of shutout 3-hit baseball with four strikeouts and no walks.
- Palm Beach only managed a single run on four hits.
- Chris Edmonson had two of the hits, both doubles
- Jonathan Rodriguez was 1-2 with a pair of walks.
- Anthony Ferrara was scheduled but he injured himself in batting practice.
- Nick Gillung was mediocre in his replacement capacity. He couldn’t find the control and walked four batters to just two K’s in 4.2 IP. He gave up four runs.
Quad Cities 10, Cedar Rapids 11
- The first game in the double-header was a slugfest, with Tyler Rahmatulla and Anthony Garcia each hitting long balls.
- Colin Walsh was 3-5 plus a walk. OPS up to 1.095, seems clearly too advanced for low-A.
- Tyrell Jenkins got knocked around pretty badly, giving up 12 hits and 8 earned runs in four short innings.
- Colin Walsh hit home run number twelve of the season.
- Virgil Hill, who hasn’t been heard from much lately, had a 3-4 day with a triple.
- Robert Stock made his first pro-start and it was a shaky one, making it only 3.2 innings and giving up four earned runs with no strikeouts.

What injury did Ferrara have?
Stock didn’t allow a run in his first three innings, but got smeared in the fourth.
Did not look like Rosenthal’s best outing. The run occurred due to allowing a steal of 3rd followed by a sac fly. Effective, but probably pitched better in games with worse results – got some line outs. Finished with 86 pitches. I heard it was very hot and humid and it was a day game. After his last outing with over 100 pitches, it doesn’t look like they wanted to push it.
The line outs weren’t really hit hard. They were rules as a line out but it was more a fisted line drive. The two hardest hit balls was the DP in the first on the line drive back to Rosenthal and the line drive out in the 4th.
I’m settling for the results.
Well, time for a little crowing. On behalf of those of us who had the faith in Matt Adams…. All those arguments with Rich last year seem to have panned out. The kid can hit ML pitching. He can hit it hard.
What a nice week. What a great game yesterday. A HR, a double, even the outs were sizzlers. One taken off the wall the other a line drive straight to CF, like a bullet.
I can see the kid returning to Memphis after Craig’s return, but, the questions are all but answered. The kid can play baseball in the major leagues. For those who had the faith… Good on ya.
I won’t get into past arguments regarding Adams but I will say this – just reading around the internet and certain insane message boards, the doubt is still there. I think questioning the future of a player is valid; but I think discounting actual performance is another thing all together. Let’s be happy for Matt and his contributions so far and hope they continue. If he continues to hit, we will have depth and god knows we ‘re going to need it
Three innings for Todd? Are they going to start him again?
