The choices of Piscotty and Ramsey look like a deliberate strategy to get advanced, high-average hitters who'll move up quickly, and are likely to be in AA a year from now.

They probably have the same thing in mind with Wacha (although he was probably the best player on the board at 19).

It reminds me of the 2006 draft. After taking a mix of HS and college players in 2005, with an emphasis on high-ceiling guys with a lot of downside risk, they went with a lot of fast movers who had considerable success in college in 2006. Maybe you can say the same about the 2011 and 2012 drafts. Lots of young, toolsy, high-upside guys in 2011, followed by a lot of high-floor college guys in 2012.

The 2006 draft has worked out okay so far, even with that unfortunate first pick.

I don't know much about swing mechanics, but I like the simplicity in his swing. Keeps the hands back and seems to have really quick wrists. Looks like a line-drive hitter with some pop.

I was really afraid that the Cardinals were going to take him at 23 (or even 18), so I was relieved that they didn't. When they took him here I figured that at least it was a value pick for where they got him, but I still don't really see him as a great prospect or a guy that fills an organizational need.

Another guy where I feel his swing needs work. Can I cross the crazy activity of Bean's swing with this guys statuesque robotic swing to get something closer to what I want.

Dude needs to load up the back leg and get more rotation out of his body. If he hit with some power with this swing, than he will hit with more power once he loosens up.

Value isn't the question mark, since I thought he was going in the 20-30 range but he has more value to a team like the Brewers who need to improve the depth. He isn't an upgrade over David Freese and I'm not sure he's better than Zack Cox as a prospect.
