Jeff’s Quick Take: Scanio looks the part of a big, hard throwing bullpen arm. He was switched to the bullpen in college and should continue there during his pro career. He’s a senior, so should be an easy sign for the Cardinals.
The local Louisana news station lists Scanio as a “hard throwing reliever”
Scanio, a 6-4, 230 pound, 22-year-old, is a native of St. Louis who was a third-team All-Southland Conference selection as he led the team in several categories this season including wins (5), earned run average (2.96), and appearances (31). Over his career as a Demon, Scanio accumulated an 11-4 overall record, four saves, and a 2.40 ERA. He struck out 126 batters while walking only 43 in 116 innings pitched.
“This is unbelievable,” said Scanio. “It still hasn’t hit me yet.
“I watched the draft yesterday and decided I wouldn’t put myself through that again,” he said. “I found out when a friend text messaged me congratulations and I went to look on my computer to see what was going on.”
Scanio has been a lifelong fan of the Cardinals and getting a call from the hometown team was a bit unexpected.
“The pick came out of nowhere,” said Scanio. “I filled out some information for them a while back and that is about all I had heard from them.”
He was a two-year letterman coming to NSU from St. Charles (Mo.) Community College and broke into the NSU top 10 on the career wins list with 11 after getting a win at Nicholls May 13.
Scanio knows there is still work to be done for him to get to the ultimate stage.
“I need to better develop my changeup to help support my fastball and slider,” said Scanio.
Scanio, a hard-throwing right-hander with an above-average slider, started the season in the NSU rotation but moved to the bullpen.
In a team-leading 31 appearances this season, Scanio posted a team-low 2.96 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 67 innings.

Scanio reminds me of Freese, because he went to a St Louis area junior college, before attending a 4 year college down south. Hope we give him at least $1,000 bucks for signing.
Why are you just stating random numbers?
Scanio is a college senior, drafted in the 16th round. Matt Carpenter was a college senior selected in the 13th round and the Cards gave him $1,000. Bearing in mind these simple facts, Andrew, how much bonus do you think the Cards will supply Scanio (drafted three rounds lower than Carpenter)?
It’s already reported that Scanio has signed.
He has good size for a hard throwing reliever.
Where could one find the list of the 27 players already signed by the Cardinals?

Cardinalnation.com Not sure if it’s insider info or not.

Gracias
It’s also available through the cardinals’ MLB.com site, under “transactions.”
You can also look under “roster” and the pulldown has a section called “draft results”. They show all the picks and whetger they are signed or unsigned.
Went to the park with Scanio the other day to throw and he did well. It says that he is a hard throwing (which is true) but let me tell you his slider is nasty… just a thought.
