“It’s the thing I’ve worked so hard for,” Gallardo said. “I’m excited to get out there and prove my talent.”
Gallardo is a two-year star for the Vikings,a two-time All-South Coast Conference first-team pick and the 2011 SCC Pitcher of the Year. As a sophomore, he was 6-4 with a 2.34 ERA and made the All-Southern California first team. His career highlight was a 10-inning no-hitter against ECC Compton on April 27 when he struck out 17 batters.
With a 90-plus mph fastball and a knee-buckling overhand curve, Gallardo struck out 98 batters in 77 innings last season.
“If he was over 6-feet tall, he would have been drafted in the top 10 rounds,” LBCC coach Casey Crook said of Gallardo, who is listed at 5-11 on the Long Beach roster. “… He’s an athlete and he’s a fierce competitor.”
Gallardo pitched a 10 inning no-hitter in April. It was sufficiently impressive for the LA Times to blurb the City College’ Gallardo’s outing. More details here.

Must have been because he was under 6 foot his draft stock went down. This pick could be a steal. It looks like he has a good feel for his breaking ball and can throw it for strikes that might be a plus pitch and he’s got some good velocity on that FB. Question about the mechanics though he doesn’t stride out very far.
The birds are not averse to short pitchers, especially down in the draft
