These are single elimination games, right? So we should be signing at least one of these guys tomorrow, whatever happens.
double elimination.
So, we will see Mejia and Ramsey again, Heyer (hopefully) won’t pitch in the next game.
John Sickels on Arizona Wildcat players drafted by the Cardinals. “Alex Mejia (4th round, Cardinals), a line drive hitter and solid defender who profiles as a utility player at the highest levels.” This is a prototypical Cardinal pick. “The key to the pitching staff is RHP Kurt Heyer (6th round, Cardinals), who uses a deceptive delivery and strong command to help his average stuff play up.” “Seven Seminoles were drafted, led by senior OF James Ramsey (1st round, Cardinals), who provides power, OBP skills, a sound glove, and leadership.”
Heyer threw 128 pitches last night. You have to think he’s going to have a very light load this summer.
With Mejia, I can’t figure out how he didn’t even rank in BA’s top 500. You’d think that being the on-field leader of a good team, a defensive difference-maker, and a high-average hitter — even if he is a singles hitter — would put him among the top 500 draft-eligible players in the country.
On the bright side: It shouldn’t be expensive to find out if he can play at the next level. Slot is $294k. Doubt if he gets a quarter of that.
Nice to see Piscotty signed for slot. Will the Cards start him in QC?
Piscotty is one of the more polished college bats drafted by the Cardinals. However he doesn’t have much power potential at the plate if he can add some pop by adding more loft to his swing so that may hold him back. His defense is a suspect to at the hot corner there’s also concerns of his athleticism to handle that position so he is likely to move to LF. IMO I’d say he starts at Johnson City.

JC is unlikely for Piscotty. Good players from major college programs seldom are started at JC. Batavia is much more likely.
Via Derrick Goold “Piscotty will go to Quad Cities, where he will be the starter at 3B. ” I could see a promotion either Walsh or Rahmatulla.
Good to know, thanks.
Piscotty didn’t look overmatched at any point in the Super Regional against Florida State. He squared it up every time I saw him at bat. I can’t imagine he’d be challenged playing against teenagers, small-college guys, and 35th-round draft picks in the Appy League.
Seems like as good a place as any to work on his defense.
The cards look for line drive hitters, so value piscotty
