The Cards have almost spent 10 million dollars in a single draft- wow. Overall very-very pleased– however would have rather seen a 2 million dollar investment at 23 (Matt Smoral or Ty Hensley), but not going to lose any sleep over it… very happy overall.

Foody is a big projectable lefty who sits 91 now and may be able to throw harder in time. The reason he fell teams didn’t want to risk him not signing and his previous shoulder issues always drop guys. That doesn’t mean he’s a 12th round talent. Last year without the new draft rules he would have been Top 3 round pick. Both Williams and Foody will get or could get over 500k because of their projection not because of there HS stats.

It’s a column about Foody, an apt place to write about him.
The ba rankings are based on those of the MLB scouting service. While teams are free to move somebody way up, as the dodgers once did with Preston Mattingly, this does not happen often. Foody was drafted about where he was rated, whereas trey Williams was rated a lot higher. Trey will be the priority for limited bonus money.
