There were five games on the docket tonight but only Johnson City could muster a win. Carson Kelly and Steve Bean, among others, made their pro debuts and a couple of River Bandits put in appearances during the Midwest League All-Star game.

Love Jeffries’ start: 3 walks and a hit. The pride of McClure.

    • DT Flush says:

Jeffries with 3 BB good to see a young hitter showing some plate discipline like he did last night. Might be a sleeper in the 2011 draft. Heard he’s got plus speed and good bat speed that will produce potential HR power down the road. Is that true?

  2. Shanky says:

With Kelly, Bean, Jeffries, and McElroy, Johnson City should be an interesting team to follow this summer. Also, where is Tilson assigned? I don’t see him on the Batavia or JC rosters. Anyone?

  3. illinoiscardinalfan says:

Yes, Jesus Montero will rain destruction down on all those who oppose him! Who is he again?

    • Andrew says:

Jesus Montero’s brother. This one is a catcher that can actually stick on defense without the offense. Opposite his brother.

  4. Bob says:

Anybody have some inside info on just-turned-19 Juan Bautista? I know he’s a righty, only around 5′ 11”, but I vaguely recall a poster at another site saying Juan had pretty good stuff.

Anyone concerned about Oscar T.’s plate discipline, well, probably doesn’t need to be. Since starting the year with one walk and thirteen whiffs in his first 90 PA’s, Taveras has drawn 22 passes (4 intentional) and fanned 25 times over 200 plate appearances. (He stole his sixth base last night, without being caught, too.)

Castillo: 13/2 GB/FB ratio. I’m gonna go back to check, but I believe his real ratio in AA is between 4-1 and 5-1, rather than the MILB-reported 2.23-1. Either way, he’s now 7-for-7 in AA, as far as Quality Starts go. He’s cut his walks in half, not given up a homer in his 45 Springfield innings…I wonder how real this success might be.

I’m with you, jimmyjoe — Lance Jeffries with the low key line ‘o the day!

    • Andrew says:

The Cardinals and Luhnow were talking him and Victory De Leon up in the Winter of 2011. Bautista had a good 2011 in the DSL also.

  5. cariocacardinal says:

Should players on a team that gets beat 18-2 still be allowed to call themselves all stars?

  6. DT Flush says:

Richard Castillo now has 12 consecutive quality starts dating back to April 7th. Pretty impressive stat for a guy that doesn’t have over powering stuff but relies on keeping the ball down.

  7. dixie_flyer says:

OT also stole a base last night
