MILB.com has Carlos Martinez throwing no walks.
My mistake. Fixed.
Impressive night by DeLeon. JC got there audio issues worked out and I was able to listen to the game. He had 3 walks bout 2 were on 8 straight pitches in the 4th were he lost his control. He got out of that inning only giving up 1 run. He’s someone to keep an eye on.
I think “impressive” is a little strong. The walks were part of his night and can’t be dismissed. I would call it “promising” maybe. The most promising part which you didn’t mention which was his 8:1 groundout to flyout ratio.
You say promising I say impressive. DeLeon gave up 1 run over 5 innings while they relief corps gave up 8 in the remaining 4. It’s not like the opposing team just couldn’t hit because as we saw the second half of the game they could. And I would consider it impressive when it’s his first JC starter and last year in GCL he was 0-6 with a 5.7 ERA.
Justin Wright starting to settle down after his horrid start. In his past 10 outings he has an ERA of 0.77.
Good catch. He really was impressive his first 2 yrs with 80K’s and 20 BB in 60 IP and only giving up 4.5 hits per 9 innings. Low HR totals also. I’d love for him to get himself back on the LOOGY radar.
Watch a few of hit outings he was clocked around 90-92 MPH topped 93 on his 4-Seamer has some good movement. He has a pretty good breaking ball as well he showed he could locate it inside to a LH Batter so it’s an out pitch for him. He’s has an explosive delivery to the plate mainly pitches out of the windup. Another guy to keep an eye on out of the Springfield pen.
Joe Cuda had 114 K’s and 14 BB in 86.1 innings this year at a small Florida college. And at least last night, he also had a good GB ratio. Is it possible that will translate to the pro’s at anywhere close to that ratio? Doubt it – but it’s fun to think about.
I was excited to see Sam T. go deep. What is the deal with him as a prospect? I know he has been mentioned as a little disappointing. Does he have too long of a swing or some other hitting flaw? Where does he profile long term defensively? Does he even profile long term at all?
Shoulder soreness/fatigue. Moved up from High A to AA while he rested his shoulder, worked on mechanics.
What injurty is CMart coming back from, and why are his innings being limted to 3 (or pitchcounts limited)?
I believe the official diagnosis was shoulder tendinitis, which kept him out for about a month. With shoulder injuries being so scary and him being a smaller guy, I imagine they will continue to proceed with caution for a little while.
Martinez is on a pitch count he threw 56 pitches 39 for strikes according to reports he was sating 95-98 topped 99-100. Anyway last season he got a workload for the first time in his career now that need to take it easy with him before his control and command go to waste like it did late last season.
Did I miss something with Benes? Is he piggy-backing now? Didn’t he throw a CG earlier this year? Are they trying to limit his innings? Can I think of another question to ask?
Starlin Rodriguez is having a very good year so far
