“Adams has goon ” That’s a Freudian slip for sure. Matt Adams could sure be considered a Goon, since he keeps beating up on pitchers. Adams is a Beast!!!

Correct, the 40-man roster slot wouldn’t be an issue because of the guy obtained in a Cox trade, who presumably would be on the other team’s 40-man already. However, the willingness to use it for someone not yet ready for the bigs (probably) is more of an issue. The teams that would have the “luxury” of absorbing such a contract. because they’re out of the running for the post season and won’t be playing roster games to fine-tune a contending team, would also want a prospect who’s going to be under team control for as long as possible, to be part of a rebuilding process. Unless Cox shows drastic improvement in the next few weeks (there are some encouraging signs, but it’s still unlikely), he won’t be attractive to either a buyer or a seller.

If we trade Cox we would get a guy from that teams 40 man so it would cancel each other out. Maybe you mean 25 man roster. Cox isn’t ready for the big leagues but it would likely be a bullpen guy we get in return from a team that is selling, not buying, and that is a pretty easy hole to fill when you are not in the playoff hunt.

I would think the fact that Cox has a ML roster spot would be an impediment to trading him, aside from his underwhelming numbers, although he is following his usual trend of becoming acclimated to a new level.

A trade partner would have have an open spot on the 40-man and be willing to use it on a minor leaguer who may be another year away…not to mention service time issues.

Too old for the GCL?
Venezuelan SP Silfredo Garcia, 21, was fine in the DSL last year. So far this season he has started three games in the GCL:

As long as we don’t trade Craig, Taveras, Wong, Adams, Carson Kelly, Jenkins, Miller and Martinez then I really wouldn’t be that upset if we traded a Cox, Piscotty or a lower level guy I wouldn’t be too upset. I am always fearing MO will make a stupid trade.

Anyone have information about Dailyn Martinez? The fact that he’s given up 6 unearned runs tempers my enthusiasm about his miniscule 0.41 ERA after four starts and 19 isn’t exactly young for the DSL. Still, this is his first year. Legit prospect?
