Just curious, with tomorrow being July 2, will there be posts if/when Cardinals announce signings of International players? Will higher bonus guys get their own post, or will all of the signings be grouped together? Thanks!

We’ll see. There is so little information on these players that it’s hard to find anything worth blogging about sometimes. The accuracy of this info is also questionable as well. There’s only a few outlets I trust in this regard.

  2. Andrew says:

Ben Badler is the best that I know about this stuff.

  3. DT Flush says:

Will be interesting to see how Rosenthal fairs against a tough Frisco lineup.

  4. Matt says:

Badler made his Top 20 post last night. On the premium version of the article, he lists who the player is expected to sign with. The Cards have only been connected with a couple of shortstops that are in Badler’s “other” section.

    • nmstar says:

Bummer. I was hoping Enrique Rojas was right about Gustavo Cabrera being linked to the Cards. It was interesting he mentioned St. Louis in the Spanish version of his article but not the English version.

why was matt adams lifted for a PH last night? did he get hurt?

    • azruavatar says:

Dunno. I looked this morning and the Memphis newspaper didn’t have anything about it. Neither did the Redbirds site. That was why I included him though.

  6. Tom s. says:

Goold gave a two sentence blurb at the end of an article on friday, indicating mejia has reached terms with the club, and suggesting jeter might reach an agreement this weekend. Anybody heard anything further?

  7. Andrew says:

    Heyer you mean?

  8. PhilB says:

I think it’s necessary to take people leaving games early with a grain of salt these days, as most of the places our minor league teams are playing are in an insane heat wave….

  9. solar pons says:

    So Williams is out/won’t sign?

    • Andrew says:

      Pretty much

      • Gruntosaurus says:

Queue the next round of “the Cardinals really screwed up by giving Ramsey so much money that they couldn’t sign Williams, and never mind whether Williams ever had any intention of signing anyway, that’s not the important thing” here.

  10. Gruntosaurus says:

Taveras went boom again, and Rosey got the W despite giving up two HRs, one to mega-prospect Jurickson Profar.

Adams didn’t play again today. Is something up?

    • cariocacardinal says:

Taveras is looking more and more like a 30-40 HR guy. I’m sure he’ll add power as he gets older.

    • wileyvet says:

Hopefully Adams only tweaked something and is not part of an impending trade.

      • Tbird says:

Not to add anything to your speculation, my opinion is that Adams is the most logical trade candidate, because he carries more value than Cox and is blocked at 1B by Alan Craig. OT will slot into RF. Adams has put together a very productive MILB career and showed flashes in his debut. Adams carries good value at this moment and could very well be the top piece in a deal for a starter, such as Liriano or Grienke.

  11. Evan says:

Tbird I agree with you. Seems that Adams may be the one to go. He has been absolutely tearing it up in AAA and his MLB stint had to improve his stock. I don’t see the brewers trading us Greinke but liriano seems possible. If we can get a SP, then I say we move Lynn or Kelly to the pen, then move the other when and if Carp or Garcia come back. That would REALLY improve our bullpen

    • jjray says:

I’d be reluctant to trade Adams. Next year, we again have the situation where there is no room in the lineup to play both Craig and Adams … except in interleague play and when one of Holliday, Beltran or Craig either can’t play or needs a rest and when we steal starts from Beltran in CF. Given the fragility of Craig (and the fact that Carlos is getting old), I really don’t think we will have any trouble find playing time for Adams over the course of the 2013 season. The following season in 2014 (when Carlos is gone), then we have to find PT for Taveras. Given he plays all 3 OF positions and taking into consideration interleague play (where either Craig or Adams can DH) and Craig’s injury history, I think we can find plenty of AB’s for OT. Someone inevitably goes on the DL and he’ll start for a month or two straight.

I’d rather the team make do with the starters we currently are trotting out there and look for help in the bullpen. Somebody is going to want to dump salary with an overpaid reliever and would take back middling prospects like Cox plus other spare parts. I just don’t see this as a year for the Cards to go all in. Carp is hurt and probably needs surgery. Adam Wainwright isn’t Adam Wainwright right now and may never be again. We don’t have the top of the rotation horses right now to be a top team but we might be able to sneak into the play offs with just a tweak or two to the roster. I very much prefer tweaks to the roster this season rather than the radical move we made last season trading Colby. Lightning generally doesn’t strike twice in the same spot in back to back years.

  12. Matt says:

I think I would vomit if we traded Adams for Liriano

    • Evan says:

I agree he is not the ideal guy to trade for, but he’s been pitching great lately. I know he has a reputation for being super streaky, but since rejoining the rotation on May 30, here are his numbers: 6 GS, 37.1 IN., 2.41 ERA, 4.82 Hits/9 3.38 BB/9. The walk rate isn’t great, but other than that the numbers are really impressive.
