O’SHEA…t, I almost forgot to tell you. I was down at the TRENTACOSTA church this morning where I met this reformed street punk who told me HELISEK yo, but heaven is sicker. Word!!! WILSON I just couldn’t BARRACLOUGHn out punning me so I had to respond. LOL!!!

You would think the Cards would have made it a priority to sign all the catchers drafted. Kantrovitz shouldn’t have let different departments become involved although the BEAN counters may have made a solid selection. I must admit I thought the pick of SWIM was a stroke…stroke…stroke of genius, unfortunately we didn’t sign him. I believed his signing was as sure as white on RICE. I even championed the drafting of Rowan as WICKed. Even though I admit, I was STRAHAN from the plan, so we didn’t pick him. Kantrovitz even asked his wife for advice and so she SCHROEDER choices down on paper and we actually took one. It’s a shame though that we only signed 2 of 5 catchers selected. I guess that’s why we had to sign free agent Ricardo Lizcano……no joke.

ok. i understand how it works. i don’t see the point in reciting its operation every time it comes up.

my point was that we were unlikely to spend any more pool money (i.e., offer anything over $100k) to these 31-40 round guys. we’ll be paying an MLB tax on any money we spend (other than to heyer), even if it doesn’t cost us draft picks.

Like Matheny, drafting Oquendo and May are courtesies. Maybe they get better scholarships.

Swim should have signed if bonus money was the decider. He can enjoy playing for Elon next spring.

Chipola is a leading juco. If Rice does well, he can be drafted much higher in future.

Signing Heyer does NOT push the team further over the cap, unless he signs for something over his slot. In fact, if he signs for slot money or less, the net effect is that the team has MORE money available for bonuses for down-draft people without falling afoul of the more severe consequences of draft overspending (loss of future draft choices). We’ve already been through this in other threads.

Actually, per Baseball America, they can offer $243,665 to sign any of those guys, as long as they sign Heyer for slot, and still not lose a draft pick.
