Get ready for some offensive stats.  Memphis had an offensive explosion but the pitching staff could not hold up their end of the bargain.  Springfield lost despite a decent but abbreviated start by Carlos Martinez.  The rest of the teams won their contests including Quad Cities who got a promising start from Tyrell Jenkins and a lot of offense from Steven Piscotty and company.  On to the good stuff….

    Is Matt Adams injured?

    • dixie_flyer says:

I think I saw where he had an issue with an elbow — it didn’t sound too serious though

      • Lou Schuler says:

Somebody tweeted that he went on the DL with the elbow injury.

        • Jeffery says:

          Adams is on the DL.

          Garcia to Memphis.

Rosenthal on the DL as of 7/2. No reason given.

          Albitz to Springfield.

          Siegrist to Springfield.

          • DT Flush says:

Will be interesting to see how Siegrist pitches in the Texas League. One thing holds Siegrist back and that’s his health. He has all the ingredients to be an effective starter he really does have good stuff didn’t realize he was 6-foot-5. He could be a late sleeper out of that bad 2008 draft class.

            • Hugecardsfan says:

Concur. Siegrist only had 6 starts or so in PB this year but he kicked butt in 4 of them (5 total hits). I saw him pitch in ST and he did a fine job. I’d love to see him succeed.

    • RawLaw says:

reoccurance of previous elbow issue from earlier in season

  2. Uncle Randy says:

McElroy has been looking swole of late. How close is Deryk Hooker to AAA?

  3. jjray says:

Something isn’t right with Sanchez. I wonder if he is not communicating pain / injury to the training staff? He hasn’t been right since being shut down at the end of the 2011 season.

  4. Zach says:

Is Aaron Luna out for the year? I don’t remember what happened to him

  5. DT Flush says:

Piscotty hit three doubles last night. He’s got a sweet line drive swing that will produce a ton of doubles get used to them.

  6. sadsushi says:

Piscotty and Garcia are becoming a good 1 2 punch and when Walsh is back that quad cities lineup is going to even better

Garcia now has a .915 ops and almost at .300 batting, now at .296..very impressive year for a 20 year old in low A

    • DT Flush says:

Don’t forget about Anthony Garcia’s defensive ability’s as well good strong throwing arm very good defender only committed 1 error in 79 chances that’s a .987 Fld%. He’s a young hitter with some tools.

  7. DT Flush says:

Nice bounce back start for the young raw power arm Jenkins. Hope that will translate to more consistency.

  8. DT Flush says:

Some interesting stats. O’Neil batting .353 .439 OBP he hasn’t even hit a HR this season and he’s still maintaining a solid .857 OPS.

Adron Chambers is now 14-for his last-24 AB that’s a .583 clip sample of 6 games. Chambers .325 AVG .393 OBP has 55 hits in 46 games continuing to be a solid catalyst to the top of that lineup.

Cox is batting .390 .405 OBP while Slugging .561 and a .966 OPS in his past 10 games 16-for-41. He’s been a double machine this season he has hit 22 doubles that’s tied for 11th in the PCL.

Cedric Hunter continues to be a solid minor league FA signing. Is batting .295 .791 OPS. Is batting .455 in his past 10 games .472 OBP 576. SLG and 1.048 OPS.

  9. pitch and hit says:

Luna has had foot surgery, it’s not a common condition, may or may not return the same.

Rosenthal back strain, caused by lifting?

Sometimes the cardinals don’t really give the most logical reasons, just the ones that make sense at that point in time.
I mentioned that he had put in significant time way before season ever began. Factor that along with all of the things expected from a NL pitcher, plus lifting for pitchers which isn’t necessary in season and there ya have it.

I saw Sanchez a few times last year and this, he has good stuff, I think he has shoulder issues. Sometimes there is nothing much you can do with shoulders but live with it or surgery.

Adams has issue with elbow, he’s a beast though, and smart, he knows when to take a rest. Probably didn’t need to play last fall.
