The system went 2-and-4 tonight as Memphis’ game was rained out. Palm Beach won the first game of their double-header despite being the victim of a one-hitter in a shortened game. The pitching performance of the day belonged to Batavia’s Kyle Helisek, who was perfect for 6 innings. C.J. McElroy and Lance Jeffries ran wild for Johnson City. Details after the jump…

Good to see James Ramsey showing some power potential. Also good to see Alex Mejia hitting for power still love his defense he brings at SS.

Talk about two athletic prospects with tremendous speed. McElroy, and Jeffries.

    • Jim1956 says:

Jeffries has some really odd numbers. He seems to have a great batting eye as he has drawn 13 walks in around 80 plate appearances. Yet he has struck out an ugly 34 times. The only time I recall seeing both walks and K’s together like that is with power guys. But his game is more small ball and speed. Very strange.

      • Charlie says:

Jim, I see where McElroy has 11 walks and 14 strikeouts in 98 at bats. He’s hitting close to .300 and has stolen 14 bases in 15 attempts.

More good news: Carson Kelly had a base on balls last night.

Steve Bean struck out two more times (24 strike outs in 59 at bats) and is hitting .119.

        • DT Flush says:

Kelly and Bean seem to be very raw explained by the slow starts. Kelly is starting to make adjustments and showing more power potential. Bean has struggled in his transition from HS to pro ball it will take him time to adjust he’s 7-for-59 this season small sample that’s a .119 AVG. He’s raw but has a lot of upside.

Since adding a cutter to his repertoire of the straight mid 90s, and changeup. Jorge Rondon has a 1.35 ERA in his past 10 outings.

Mike O’Neil owns a .447 OBP this season.

    • jjray says:

Good news on Jorge Rondon. With Reifer not back to form, Sanchez scuffling this season and Swagerty having undergone TJ, our great depth of right handed relief pitchers has somewhat dried up. The door is open.

  4. DT Flush says:

LH pitcher Dewen Perez who was one of the top international signings last season is armed with a low 90s fastball. Pitch for DSL 5 innings 3H 2R 2ER 1BB 4K 6 groundouts to 3 flyouts. 2.25 ERA in 6 starts 8BB/33 K has held opponents to a .194 AVG this season.

Were any readers at that Memphis-Albuquerque game? Did they try to start it before it was scrubbed? One of the most awesome thunderstorms I’ve ever seen in my life was at Isotopes Park, the night Barry Bonds hit homer number 755 (curse him) — parts of the sky turned an eerie lime green just before it hit, not like the green you get in Illinois or Missouri when there may be a tornado lurking in the vicinity, but a bright green. It was like a window on heaven, one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve never seen anything like it. If people at this non-game got anything similar, they were better off than if they’d got the game in, particularly considering what a crummy team Memphis has had this year. (Although it would have been fun to see how many dingers Adams could hit out of that launching pad.)

Going to the Batavia game against Auburn tonight. Looking forward to seeing Alex Mejia and Breyvic Valera!

    • Charlie says:

KBF, We’ll expect a full report from you tomorrow. Be interested to know what you think of Patrick Wisdom as well.

  7. rj says:

Several moves yesterday. ferrara to springfield, Hald and Miller to PB, and Barraclough to QC. roberto de la cruz finally demoted tol Batavia with Bergin to QC. Hopefully de la cruz has some success. It is still a promotion over last year at JC.

  8. Snayke says:

Ramsey has a .710 OPS. Did he start at too high of a level?

    • Richard says:

Huh? Can someone say “small sample size”?

Anyway, what were you expecting? A .350/.450/.650 line?

BTW, Baseball Reference currently has his line as .271/.348/.407.
