Jaime Garcia makes a rehab start in Springfield. Anthony Garcia and Stephen Piscotty make some noise in Quad Cities.

OT was actually 1-5 with a SB and run score.
thanks
Would like to see Wacha move up, maybe set up for Butler, or at least give Butler a little more rest.
Wacha’s straight FB and curveball will likely not be tested this season due to pitching in relief.
Man, Reifer is really struggling. I have to start wondering if he is going to make it past this year. Only reason he would is if they think he just hasn’t returned from injury and he still might.
Reifer is the next guy off the 40-man, IMO.
Was in attendance at the Springfield game last night. Taveras again takes massive cuts at the plate violent controlled swing. In Taveras’s first AB he K’d on a curve-ball off balance type swing his 2 strike approach may need little work other than that Taveras made hard contact on his next 3 AB on sharply hit groundballs. In his last AB Taveras hit a single that was a rocket right up the middle ball sounds different off his bat.
Kevin Siegrist also pitched 2 2/3 innings last night for Springfield. He was sitting in the high 80s to low 90s on his fastball had some movement hit most of his spots mixed in a change-up that got a few swings and misses his delivery is a little funky it looks like he sides arm the ball hides the ball well to did struggle with his control a bit due to the umpires tight strike zone.
Fornataro pitches from the windup was sitting in the low-to-mid 90s displayed a sharp curve-ball with solid late break. Fornataro has reinvented himself into a groundball type pitcher.
Greg Garcia is actually a pretty smooth defender at SS does not have excellent range but has enough. Garcia made an excellent diving play up the showing some athleticism he ranged to his right to Wong nice turn showing his strong arm to Scruggs for a 6-4-3 DP. Wong made a leaping catch in the air showing his athleticism as well. Garcia also worked a 6 pitch walk showing his incredible plate discipline. Wong timing was a bit down due to his leg kick in his stance he looked a bit over matched with some of his swings.
Keith Butler was sitting in the mid-to-high 80s on his fastball showed his above average slider that he left over the plate a few times resulting in giving up a grand slam in the 12th.
DT; Why does it seem like Kolten Wong is on cruise control? What’s your take on him?
No doubt that Reifer has been a disappointment for me this season. Maybe he’s not completely healthy. However, if we wants to stay on the 40-man after this season, he’s going to have to show the Cardinals front office something.
As for Wacha, he sure is exciting. Is it possible that the Cards might send him to AA at some point to pitch in relief? Would they do that?
Anthony Garcia now slugging .528 and ISOing .245 this season for Quad Cities showing some intriguing power potential. That 31:90 BB:K ratio is going to kill him at higher levels though.
Good to see Adam Ehrlich show some power potential in his bat still love his defense behind the plate.
What’s interesting is that Garcia had outstanding K:BB ratios his first couple of years. His BB rate actually hasn’t decreased that much, just that the K rate as soared.
The knee jerk reaction would then be that he’s having trouble with more advanced breaking stuff. Will be interesting to see how he finishes up and where he goes next year, PB or even up to SPR.
I dont see him starting at SPFLD with those K rates.
He needs some time at PB but he will be fine.
Kenny Peoples Walls hit his first HR for GCL this season last night. Walls a very raw prospect owns this line .224/.288/.318.
I’m wondering about Piscotty’s future in the system. He’s only hit 2 hrs in over 100 abs and also has 10 errors already at 3b. Where is his future position? Is it 2b?
Steven Hill is on a run; he popped another dinger tonight. Must be pushing for a September call-up.
Piscotty’s ultimate future is probably in LF. He even got ample playing time there in college, if I recall correctly.
I’m beginning to think Piscotty’s upside is Skip Schumaker.
Piscotty’s highest upside would be probably Scott Rolen (not Schumaker) minus the defense both have strong line drive swings.
I am engulfed in a wave of sadness everytime Carson Kelly doesn’t make the DFR.
