He's like Ichiro already. Just one word, Oscar. If he starts 2013 in AAA and an outfielder goes to the DL early in the season, JMo will need a backbone of steel to stand up against the calls to promote Oscar even though it would grant him Super 2 status. Fan expectations may be another reason the organization has not promoted Oscar to AAA already. Interesting story line.

BA just released its minor league "best tools" survey. Lots of Cards named, esp. in the Texas League, thanks to the confluence of our best prospects playing in an 8-team league.

OT, as you'd expect, is named best hitter and most exciting player in the TL.

To my surprise, BA has Audry Perez as best defensive C.

Less surprising: Wong as best defensive 2B; Curtis best strike-zone judgment; Rosenthal best SP; C. Martinez best FB.

In the FSL, BA has Mike O'Neill with the best strike-zone judgment, Maness with best control, and Starlin Rodriguez as best defensive 2B.

In the MWL, they have "Nick Martin" with best strike-zone judgment. I don't know if they meant Nick Martini (.360 OBP), or someone else entirely. No idea why why they didn't pick Colin Walsh, whose .423 OBP leads the league by 28 points. I know he's hurt, but the surveys were taken weeks ago.
