The system went 2-for-4 overall. Memphis featured a nice pitching performance and a pair of pitchers make debuts at levels.

Memphis 3, Tacoma 1

  • Adron Chambers was 2-for-4 with a walk.
  • Steve Hill was 0-for-2 but walked twice.
  • Bryan Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Memphis managed 6 walks to go with their 6 hits.
  • Tyler Lyons was dominant striking out 7 in 6 innings. He allowed 5 hits and 1 walk for 1 earned run. Lyons has had some terrible luck this year with a 2-7 record despite an excellent K:BB ratio. One interesting note is that Lyons has gone from being a groundball pitcher in Springfield to a flyball pitcher in Memphis. Lyons has struck out nearly a batter an inning this season.
  • Jess Todd struck out 2 in his inning of work. He allowed 1 walk and 1 hit.
  • Jorge Rondon, in his 4th game for Memphis, struck out 2 and picked up the save.

Springfield 2, San Antonio 3 (14 innings)

  • Kolteon Wong was 1-for-6. Wong had an error and a stolen base.
  • Oscar Taveras was 0-for-5. Taveras also gunned out a runner at third.
  • Xavier Scruggs was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run.
  • In 46 at bats, Springfield tallied just 6 hits. They also walked 4 times.
  • Carlos Martinez pitched 5 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 run. He walked 2 and struck out 2.
  • Scott Gorgen pitched 3 innings of relief and struck out 6.
  • Michael Blazek took the loss in the 14th allowing a run on 3 hits and a walk.

Palm Beach 0, Bradenton 4

  • Mike O’Neill was 1-for-2 with a walk.
  • Chris Corrigan struck out 5 in 6 innings. He was touched up for 4 hits and 3 walks for 2 runs.
  • Jose Almarante allowed 3 hits in 2 innings and 1 run.

Quad Cities 1, Beloit 2

  • Nick Longmire was 2-for-4.
  • Luis Mateo was 2-for-3.
  • Casey Rasmus had the only extra base hit for Quad Cities with a 5th inning home run. The team had 7 singles as well.
  • Boone Whiting, in his first start for Quad Cities in 2012, struck out 3 and allowed 2 hits.
  • Robert Stock had a mess of an outing walking 3 in 3 innings. He allowed 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 2. With 46 walks in 68 innings, it’s been a rough conversion to pitching.

Batavia 3, Mahoning Valley 7

  • Steven Ramos was 1-for-4 with a walk.
  • Danny Stienstra was 1-for-1 with 3 walks.
  • Breyvic Valera was 0-for-5.
  • Ben O’Shea pitched 6 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The one run was a solo home run. O’Shea also struck out 2 and hit 3 batters.
  • Jose Pasen returned from his suspension. He failed to record an out and allowed 4 runs (3 earned). He walked 2 and allowed a hit.

Johnson City 10, Pulaski 3

  • C.J. McElroy was 3-for-5.
  • Ildemaro Vargas was 1-for-4 with a walk. His hit was a triple.
  • Adam Ehrlich was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
  • Jeremy Schaffer was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Seeing what C.J. McElroy is doing makes me wonder what Charlie Tilson could be doing. If you remember, before Tilson got hurt, there was an article where (I believe) Vuch was raving about Tilson in extended Spring Training and said he may start higher than they would have expected.

Sam Freeman also pitched a scoreless inning 1H 1BB 1K. Freeman has a 16 inning scoreless streak dating back to July 4th.

  3. DT FLush says:

Carlos Martinez owns a 57.0% groundball rate in 10 starts at SPF, ever since the organization made his delivery less violent he’s became more of a groundball pitcher and he now owns a modest K rate of 18.4% and he’s also cut down on his walks 6.3% walk rate in 10 starts for SPF. That’s a sign of polishing up wonder if his K rate goes back up after another change in approach settles in.

  4. DT FLush says:

Adam Ehrlich continues to impress with the bat now 15-for-29 AB .517 AVG 1 HR 5 RBI small sample size of AB but good to see the offense is coming around at the plate still realy like his catch and throw ability.

Does Bryan Anderson give a F*ck anymore? Poor guy is nowhere close to what he did last year. Mo should have mercy on him and just trade him to Houston already.

    • Austin says:

“Not giving a f*ck” is not a direct correlation of poor performance. I would agree that Bryan Anderson is a non-prospect for the most part at this point, but questioning a kids will without any sources besides his stats is irresponsible.

No need to dump Bryan Anderson. He came very close to making the team out of spring training. Anybody could have had a mental let down after that.

  6. pitch and hit says:

I feel really bad for Bryan, they keep him on in case they need him in a pinch. He is forever blocked, he may not be ML starting material but he could be a back up for sure on another team.

  7. ed light says:

seth maness has 71 strikeouts and 7 walks with springfield. more attention needs to be paid.
