thanx for the info. think he’d make a good lefty? and do you think we should protect him in the upcoming rule 5 draft?

can you plz provide a report like that for fornataro and butler too? both of them are also rule 5 candidates who may or may not need protecting.

there would seem to be almost zero chance of that. the cardinals’ high minors are stuffed with high ceiling pitching. siegrist is going to be lost in that mix.

i am baffled by the continuing praise heaped on castillo and siegrist and other marginal performers in the high minors. siegrist can barely manage a 2:1 K:BB ratio. he’s a tangential prospect at best. he’s barely thrown 20 innings in AA while prospects younger than him leapfrog him.

if he were on the cardinals radar sufficient to merit a 40-man spot, he wouldn’t be making his springfield debut in august of his age 23 season. who would put siegrist on their major league roster for a whole season?

Siegrist really has plus stuff for a southpaw that is projected at 6-foot-5 low 90s fastball with a average to slightly above average change-up with fade. He’s really refined his command more this season walking less batters than he did in the past (PMB and SPF combined 76 IP) owns a 8.9% Walk rate and a 3.17 BB/9 right now in 2011 10.2% walk rate and 3.77 BB/9 command is certainly improving.

Breyvic Valera and his consistent knack of barreling everything right handed and left handed just a pure hit machine this season now has 77 hits this season (.333 AVG) he leads the New York-Penn League in hits.

Jacob Wilson must have fixed a flaw in his swing or something because he’s 9-for his last-19 AB at the plate that’s a .473 AVG has 3 HR and 8 RBI in a 5 game span.

Shaban is intriguing relief prospect that sits consistently 91-93 tops 94 on his fastball. Shaban has struck out 28 batters in 19 IP (32.9% K rate) small sample size but intriguing.

Siegrist has settled in nicely at Springfield with three good outings in a row now after getting knocked around in the first two. So this is Siegrist’s fifth season in our system. I assume that the Cardinals will have to decide whether or not to put him on the 40 man roster this winter or risk losing him to the rule 5 draft.
