The system won 6 of its 7 games today. Surprisingly, Springfield was the team on the losing side as Seth Maness had an unfortunate outing. Fortunately, today offered other pitching performances for us to drool over, especially in Memphis, Batavia, and Johnson City. The offensive star of the day was probably Cody Stanley; he homered in each of Palm Beach’s games. Details after the jump…

The two hits Rosenthal gave up were both infield hits….it was a Milleresque performance. 67 pitches.
Somebody want to explain to me why you let Rosie bat in the bottom of the 5th prior to making the pitching change to start the 6th?
Rosie hits better than anyone on Memphis’ bench.
He was also throwing on 3 days rest. Granted just an 8 pitch appearance with St. Louis. But when the extra travel trip and day less of rest I assume we had him on a pitch count. And yes, Memphis offense is just terrible so he definitely wasn’t any worse than what could have battem for him.
Batted*
Broadcasters acknowledged Rosenthal was on a 75 pitch limit.
Just noticed that the GCL Cards have won their division, the first in the league to get into the playoffs.
It also looks like Springfield is a virtual lock (granted, in a 8-team league where 4 teams make the playoffs), and JC is currently in the lead for the 2nd playoff spot in its division.
Batavia still has a shot. They’re 3 behind with time to catch up.
It doesn’t look like anyone else has a chance.
Taveras has not played the past 2 games. Is he OK?
I think there was some seismic activity in Memphis and they were worried that his violently, controlled swing might cause Graceland to slide off into the Gulf of Mexico…..
and that would be a bad thing?
It would be even better if I got the right city that he was playing in.
Memphis was scared even with him in Springfield … so violent, yet controlled!
Just heard it was just rest. Taveras needs to rest that violent controlled swing and plus plus hand eye coordination.
*. . . violent controlled swing might blast supersonic line drives into the yakov smirnov theater in branson.
fyp.
Reason Taveras has been out of the SPF lineup the past two days. http://blogs.news-leader.com/cardinals/2012/08/23/why-taveras-has-not-played-since-monday/
Anthony Garcia continues to show his raw power potential in his first season out of the Appy League .519 slugging .872 OPS but owns a 24.0% K rate that’s the downfall.
I need to do a write up on him from my notes when I saw him. I was a big fan. The strike outs do concern me but he didnt look like was lost at the plate. He can handle a fastball and hammered mistakes, but did go Soriano on a couple bad breaking balls that got him out. I think 24% is a bit of a statistical blip and that it will regress a bit. He has a shot of getting his strike out percentage slightly under 20% and raise his walk percentage over 10%. Combined that would a lot more papable.
I also really liked watching him in the field.
Two nice Anthony Garcia highlights in this clip. Two run homer and walk-off single.

In the highlight you can kinda see how super simple he keeps his swing. The stride kick is a bit high but he develops so much power with a such a compact swing. I kinda feel like he is a Ludwick type player in the pros maybe slightly better defender. Really that is a hugely valuable player. Great hitter with some borderline all star years.
Dail Villanueva is putting together a solid season for QC in only his 2nd season in the US 24 games 114.2 IP 44 BB/ 86 K 4.08 ERA has been inconsistent at times but is a southpaw that has shown glimpse of ability at times is a very raw prospect as well.
Heard Dail Villanueva sits in the range of 88-92 on his fastball also throws a curve-ball that is his best secondary pitch but has been inconsistent some this season.
