Welcome to your weekend edition of the Daily Farm Report. Like most weekend editions, it features not-quite-ready-for-primetime hosts and awkward jokes that we all pretend to laugh at. (Just kidding on that last one) After the jump, we will have the farm report and coming up later, Azru will show us how to turn a couple old socks and an alarm clock into an outdoor project that the kids will love!

Tweet from Kary Booher on the 6-foot-5 southpaw Kevin Siegrist
“Enjoying watching Siegrist work both sides of the plate tonight. Busting right-handed batters inside, mixing in changeup, too. ”
Also an article by Booher on Siegrist. http://blogs.news-leader.com/cardinals/2012/08/25/on-a-roll-siegrist-not-baby-ing-an-all-important-pitch/
Wondering whether Jorge Rondon might be a candidate for a Sept. callup. 3.11 FIP and 13 k/9 since going to AAA. If Kelly to the rotation is a long-term thing, another power arm in the pen that can get k’s would be useful. I know he only has 10 innings @ AAA but Eduardo Sanchez appears to be the only other option with that skill set at Memphis and Eduardo hasn’t looked good this year. I didn’t realize how bad Eduardo has been this year until I looked at the numbers.

I’m wondering if Tyler Lyons could be a candidate for a Sept callup used as a LOOGY since his splits are so impressive against LH hitters. Lyons hides the balls well against LH batters because of that over the top delivery.
Generally when a pitcher throws “over the top,” that means he doesn’t hide the ball well. Pitcher’s with “over the top” deliveries are usually referred to as “pitching machines” because that over the top motion is similar to how a pitching machine fires the ball.
can’t find advanced splits on Lyons, I don’t have access to those stat’s, but I was under the impression he actually was better against RH’s vs. LH’s. Mllb.com has splits on his Memphis time and the BA for LH vs RH is about the same, ERA is higher against LH’s, and they appear to hit for more power against him, though only slightly. He appears to be more evenly matched against both than a LOOGY guy.
Minor League Central has Lyons splits vs LH hitters at .231 AVG .703 OPS (between Memphis and Springfield).
Memphis vs LH hitters are batting .262 against Lyons
Springfield vs LH hitters are batting .174 against Lyons
thanks for that, I’ll check those out if it isn’t a pay site. if he can revert to his Springfield numbers, then he definitely is a LOOGY possibiliity
Rondon will be interesting for the Cardinals this Winter. They have to put him on the 40 man roster or he will be a minor league free agent.
Probably a few like that. It’s why I suspect we are watching the last gasp of Dickson in a Cardinals uniform. Gotta make some room on that 40 man roster.
Good to see Starlin Rodriguez showing some raw power potential in the FSL now has 7 HR. He should hit for more power as he develops the bat speed is definitely there just very raw. Rodriguez numbers have only progressed season by season .297/.374/.438/.812 .362 BABIP .372 wOBA 131 wRC+. It will be interesting to see how he fares out in the Texas League next season.
Piscotty now has 22 errors in 48 games. I have to think he’s running on fumes at this point, after a long college season followed almost immediately by competing in a league where he’s one of the few guys in his first pro season.
He’s hitting .350 in his past 10 games, which suggests his struggles are limited to his defense. But only 3 of 14 hits in that stretch went for extra bases, vs. 19 of 53 overall.
He can hit…I put his ceiling just above Allen Craig’s. I saw him right after he signed and he didnt look comfortable at all in the field. Kid has some really heavy hands.
Watching MLB network. Does anyone else think that Brett Wallace has lost dome weight? Looks a little more athletic than he
…did with the Cardinals.
We noticed this when we saw him play in Albuquerque earlier in the season. His top half looked almost lean, while his bottom half merely looked huge, rather than downright gynormous as it had in the past. I would still have paid good money for the comic value of seeing him attempt to play shortstop.
A ceiling above Allen Craig’s is quite a compliment.
It depends…I think he has a shot to hit with some power, so hitting wise that is where I would put his potential ceiling. He aint going to play infield though. Craig is a better athlete than Piscotty. If they have a position for him he should make it to the show earlier than Craig and play. I think I said earlier that he strikes me as somewhere between Carpenter and Craig with the bat but has a chance to get to the show quicker which would raise his value a bit. That is purely a call on his ceiling…
Yea, Wallace lost a lot of weight. The rap on Piscotty on draft day was that he would likely move to an OF corner, but he also hasn’t showcased too much power, so you’d like to see him stick at 3rd. Hopefully he gets some work in at third in the offseason.
Here are the splits on Lyons:

They do look better against right handers.
I also want to see what Starlin will do after he gets out of that hitters graveyard in PB.
Per Kary Booher
“Taveras says it’s a hamstring, high in his right leg. Shildt says it’s a hip alignment issue. what has taveras sidelined?”
“Shildt on Taveras: “He probably could go today, but I don’t think we want to push it.”"
Shelby Miller did quite well again tonight. The lineup he faced was loaded. I believe 6 guys were over .300, another at .295, and then Dee Gordon, who is about to make Hanley move back to 3rd.
Shelby did pitch well, but he gave up another dinger….PCL or not, that HR rate is going to haunt him if he can’t figure it out.
