Only four teams laced upthe cleats last night and it didn’t go well for three of them. Boone Whiting was a tough luck loser despite a great start and John Gast pulled himself together with a great start of his own. Let’s get to the good stuff….

Patrick Wisdom hasn’t disappointed @ Batavia. Look forward to seeing how he fares next season at Quad Cities.
Was just 20 y.o. until about a week ago. Probably one of the youngest first year pro’s in the league.
I thought Chambers was a September call-up?
I think last night was the final game for Memphis. Chambers is being called up and will probably arrive in St. Louis today.
I really like my pitchers to have plus fastballs. True fastballs that they can throw by a hitter and get a lot of swings and misses. That said I think Boone Whiting has a shot. I saw him last year and he is a really deceptive dude on the mound. Same repeatable arm slot on every pitch, but has a good change, breaking ball, and can run his fastball to either side of the plate. When the ball comes out of his hand the ball speed varies but the arm speed is consistent. He is getting a lot of spin on the ball to get it to do what it does. It is kinda a package of average stuff with good command whole is more than its parts.
I am really rooting for the guy. He is one of the better soft tossers that I have seen.
I am also a Whiting fan, though I’ve always been a little concerned that he is the next Jess Todd. Wonder how the two compare?
I’m a whiting fan as well, I don’t think Jess Todd is a good comparison really. Maybe body type (whiting isn’t very tall right ?). but Todd has a lot harder FB and throws like a slider, Boone throws slower Fb with a lot better command and curve and a good changeup.
I see Maness and whiting as similar pitchers.
I’m amused at the notion that 6’1″, 175# (Whiting) is a similar body type to 5’11″, 210# (Todd).
I guess I was reaching for somebody that had really good numbers coming up through the lower minors but might not have enough stuff to be effective at the major league level.
how fast does he throw and how much movement?
Whiting doesn’t have particularly over powering stuff only sits 88-91 consistently on his fastball changes speeds well and relies on his excellent command. Like BigJawnMize stated “Whiting is very deceptive” especially when using his very deceptive change-up which it turns to make his heater velocity look even faster also throws a curve, and a slider.

Whiting reminds me a lot of the Brewers hurler Mike Fiers. Both pitchers depend on deception, both sit in the high-to-low 90s consistently and both also have outstanding change-ups. Just to note Fiers throws a slider, and a curve as well similar repertoires.
The introduction here is misleading. Whiting was not the loser, hard luck or otherwise. As the subsequent breakdown makes clear, the loser was Justin Wright.
oh and BTW every report the link always has nick martini linked to some dude nick MARTIN. Just to let ya know Thanks !
My apologies if this is inappropriate:
I have two tickets to Springfield’s playoff game Friday night that I am not going to be able to use. They are in field box C, second row, right next to the Cardinals’ dugout on the first base side. Let me know if you are interested. I live in central MO and will be in StL tomorrow if that helps to facilitate an exchange. $20 for the pair.
What does Central MO mean? I’m in Springfield and might be interested if they were pick-up-able.
Givemi- ill take the tickets. I can send you the money through PayPal tonight. My # is 573-465-0678 if u want to text me a way I can get the tix. I live in mid-mo, an hour away from Springfield. I’ll pay for shipping if need be. Thx.
There’s something wrong with Gast, his… Er, um… Right. *sheepish grin*
