Thanks to the FR crew for covering my last few DFRs while I was off getting married and honeymoonin’.

Tonight, the system went 3-and-3. It’s difficult to pick an offensive standout tonight, but QC’s attack was balanced as every single player in the lineup contributed at least 1 hit. There were several laudable pitching performances. Details after the jump…

The system went 2-and-3 tonight. After two steps in the right direction (in terms of results), our top pitching prospect took a step backwards tonight. And the big bats came out for Springfield. And… I hope you don’t mind, but I took Johnson City’s night off as an opportunity to jot down a few musings on some of the club’s more interesting players. Details after the jump…

It was a feel-good day as the system went 4-and-1, but Johnson City was rained out again. Quad Cities put the hurt on Lansing. Technically, Matt Williams didn’t hit for the cycle… because he was better than that. Springfield’s usual suspects provided ample offense while Trevor Rosenthal returned from the DL (back spasms) in successful fashion. Both Springfield and Memphis recorded shut-outs. Details after the jump…

Happy 4th of July, everyone! The system had a successful holiday going 4-and-2. Quad Cities’ put on an explosive display of offense that included Stephen Piscotty‘s first professional home run. Palm Beach’s 9th inning rally wasn’t enough, but Batavia won in walk-off fashion and Johnson City outlasted its opponent after 11 innings. And as if his .382 wOBA wasn’t enough already, Kolten Wong gave Cards fans another reason to love him:

Mike O’Neill was drafted out of USC as an outfielder in the 31st round of the 2010 draft but has yet to escape single-A. Perhaps that will change soon. At 24-years-old, he’s one of the older players in the Florida State League, and he was recently chosen to play in the FSL’s 2012 All-Star game where he went 0-for-3 with 2 walks, a strikeout, and run scored batting leadoff for the South. If you make it to the end of the post, I’ll reward you with some video.

Those of you who religiously check the Daily Farm Reports probably noticed that O’Neill can draw a walk (12.6% BB/PA). But have you noticed his ability to avoid strikeouts (4.9% K/PA)?

Ryan Jackson had a perfect night at the plate for Memphis, notching a couple of extra base hits in the process. Springfield had a strong showing in the Texas League All-Star Game… one hitter in particular stole the show. Can you guess who? Sam Gaviglio pitched well for Quad Cities. After 17 innings, Batavia outlasted its opponent thanks to relief pitcher Corey Baker. Johnson City’s pitching staff had a forgettable day. Details after the jump…
