Author ArchiveThe system earned a split on the evening. Richard Castillo had another strong start at double-A. Drew Benes missed some bats in high-A. Brian Broderick had another rough outing though he was also victimized by poor defense… again. Kip Wells and Anthony Reyes teamed up to put the hurt on Memphis. To be honest with you guys, I would have stayed up to watch Reyes’ outing on Gameday had I known he was pitching. Details after the jump… Offense came alive as the system earned a split yesterday with Memphis and Palm Beach pummeling their opponents. According to the official Palm Beach Twitter feed, Alan Ahmady took the league lead in doubles last night. Springfield nearly completed an amazing 9th inning comeback that included a crucial Oscar Taveras pinch hit appearance. Kolten Wong reached base in 5 of 6 plate appearances. Nick Additon got back on track after a few rough starts. Details after the jump… The entire system had trouble scoring runs today but there were a couple of notable pitching performances, especially Richard Castillo‘s debut at double-A Springfield. Seth Maness finally allowed a walk. And the opposing manager showed some respect to Oscar Taveras. Details after the jump… Tough night for hitting prospects as Matt Adams got tossed in the bottom of the 9th inning (presumably arguing balls and strikes since it was in the middle of an at-bat) and Springfield was the victim of a no-hitter. Today’s best individual performances were probably both from Quad Cities as Sam Gaviglio pitched 8 innings and Juan Castillo homered and walked twice. Details after the jump… Sringfield had the day off and the rest of the system went 1-and-2. Memphis had a tough day in the field, particularly Zack Cox, who committed his 7th and 8th errors of the season. Palm Beach won behind a strong effort from Richard Castillo who was able to get a bunch of outs via grounders. Quad Cities pitchers had a tough day on the mound. Details after the jump… The system goes 3 and 1 on the day; Palm Beach wins for the seventh time in its past nine contests by shutting out Fort Myers thanks to a strong outing by Chris Corrigan. Steven Hill makes a triumphant return from the disabled list. Ryan Jackson continues to give us hope in his bat. Oscar Taveras flashes some skill in the outfield despite entering late in the game. Details after the jump… Brandon Dickson had the most impressive day in the system by uncharacteristically striking out more than one batter per inning. With the exception of Kolten Wong, the other top position player prospects were mostly tamed. Memphis and Springfield both won by the score of 2-to-1 while Palm Beach lost a close one in extras. Quad Cities was postponed, so they’ll play two tomorrow. Details after the jump… Allen Craig continues his rehab assignment and Oscar Taveras swats his second HR in two days, but only Quad Cities could escape with a win today. Oscar Taveras won the poll with 2 hits (1 of which was a HR), though his competition was reduced since Kolten Wong didn’t play and Starlin Rodriguez exited his game early.
