The system split its games with 2 wins and 2 losses today. Nick Additon surprised us all by winning today’s poll by 1 strike out, but Trevor Rosenthal probably had the better outing. Oscar Taveras padded his batting average. Palm Beach played a rain shortened game but Quad Cities made up for it by going an extra 4 innings. Details after the jump…

Only two games tonight. Memphis won its third game out of the past four thanks to an early offensive attack led by The Legend. Shelby Miller struggled with his control but compensated by missing bats. Matt Adams hit another double. Ho-hum. Quad Cities overcame a blown save to salvage an extra inning win in crazy fashion. In reply to a question about which starting pitching prospect would be called upon to replace Carpenter should his injury prove insurmountable, Joe Strauss provided a curious response and he apparently reiterated a similar sentiment on the radio days later:

First of all, assuming Carp’ is ‘shelved for the year’ has no basis at this time. Neither is assuming that Shelby Miller is close to ready for this level. There are many within the organization who see Joe Kelly as a rising option should further need arise within the rotation. Based on his velocity, his maturity and his makeup, Trevor Rosenthal has won many admirers within the organization, including the major-league clubhouse. Folks need to re-think some of their assumptions.

Memphis lost its 7th game in a row despite a strong start by Joe Kelly and a decent chance to even the score in the 9th inning. All of today’s starting pitchers lasted at least 6 innings. It turns out that Carlos Martinez did not start for Palm Beach today but I am uncertain whether we had misinformation or if something came up. I checked the site but did not see any explanation. Introduction: As azruavatar announced the other day, you’ll be reading me regularly on Wednesday and Thursday DFRs, but I also hope to write other pieces as time allows. I’ve followed this website for many years and look forward to being one of the contributors. I’ve also written at Gas House Graphs, a saber-slanted site that focuses on the MLB team. Memphis was shut out but there were still positive notes to take away from the triple-A game. Matt Adams pumped out another extra base hit and Eduardo Sanchez might have found some traction. Springfield gets the day off. I don’t even get to swoon over Wong or Taveras on my first DFR. Major bummer. Palm-Beach pummels A.J.
