Springfield gets the offensive nod for putting together an excessive 9th inning comeback and having 6 position players with a multi-hit night. Quad Cities’ duo of Boone Whiting and Dixon Llorens highlight today’s pitching performances. Details after the jump… The system won 6 of its 7 games today. Surprisingly, Springfield was the team on the losing side as Seth Maness had an unfortunate outing. Fortunately, today offered other pitching performances for us to drool over, especially in Memphis, Batavia, and Johnson City. The offensive star of the day was probably Cody Stanley; he homered in each of Palm Beach’s games. Details after the jump… Johnson City played a doubleheader and split with Bristol. Shelby Miller and Carlos Martinez both turned in excellent starts with Silfredo Garcia crashing the party with a great start of his own for Johnson City. In other news, Xavier Scruggs puts on a power display for Springfield and the Palm Beach game was postponed. Let’s get to the good stuff…. Johnson City made a push for the playoffs by sweeping Bristol in a doubleheader. Batavia also helped their playoff standing by getting a win versus division leading Auburn. The real standout players on the night were all toeing the rubber. Thomas Lee leads those players and pulled off the rare relief appearance in game one of the doubleheader followed by a stellar 7.0 inning start in game two. Michael Wacha continues his excellence in his AA debut, John Gast is shaky coming off the DL and Johnson City has trouble fielding the ball as the system goes 2-4 The upper minors were pretty rough last night. Both Quad Cities and Batavia featured solid outings from their starting pitcher and Anthony Garcia makes another DFR. Seth Maness does the unthinkable in Springfield bringing his season walk total up to 9 by issuing 2 free passes. Johnson City romps Princeton twice in one day and Kolten Wong flashes a little power. The system had a strong showing as it won 5 of its 6 games played. Two of the system’s best pitching prospects took the mound today in Shelby Miller and Carlos Martinez. Several hitters put on impressive hitting displays for Johnson City. Details after the jump… Thanks to the FR crew for covering my last few DFRs while I was off getting married and honeymoonin’. Tonight, the system went 3-and-3. It’s difficult to pick an offensive standout tonight, but QC’s attack was balanced as every single player in the lineup contributed at least 1 hit.
