For the second time in as many years (Maikel Cleto last year) the Cardinals promote a pitcher from AA Springfield right to the major league bullpen.  Per BJ Rains of Fox Sports Midwest and Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals are promoting Trevor Rosenthal to pitch in the bullpen.

Rosenthal is not on the 40 man roster, so a corresponding move will need to be made there.  Maikel Cleto (coincidentally enough) is headed down to Memphis to make room for Rosenthal on the 25 man roster.

Additionally, keep in mind that if the Cardinals promote Brian Fuentes, they will have to make another spot on the 40 man roster as well.

Some suggestions for players to release from the 40 man roster and subject to waivers are: RHP Chuckie Fick, 1B Mark Hamilton, SS Pete Kozma or C Steve Hill.

UPDATE: Per Derrick Goold, Jaime Garcia has been moved to the 60-day DL, which opens a spot on the 40 man roster.

Discuss.
